Chhota Bheem Launches New Comic Series
Highlights
Chhota Bheem’s new comic series has been launched in partnership with the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The stories from Dholakpur celebrate values like courage, friendship, and teamwork.
The initiative supports India’s push for homegrown content and culturally rooted storytelling.
Popular Indian cartoon character Chhota Bheem is set to debut in a brand-new format as Green Gold Animation teams up with the Publications Division (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) to launch a brand-new comic book series. The comic series unveiling took place at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on August 8, 2025.
The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision to boost Indian content creation across books, animation, films, and digital platforms. Inspired by India’s storytelling traditions, the comics promise to bring Bheem’s adventures to life for a fresh generation of readers as well as long-time fans.
For those unfamiliar, Chhota Bheem is set in the fictional kingdom of Dholakpur. Its tales depict a brave, kind-hearted iteration of Bheem from Indian mythology. The franchise blends traditional themes with modern narratives. The comic series aims to entertain while also helping younger audiences know more about Indian culture.
Speaking at the event, Rajiv Chilaka, Founder and CEO of Green Gold Animation, said, “The Government of India has been actively promoting Indian content in animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics through initiatives like WAVES 2025. With such support, India is ready to become a global leader in the creative sector. Chhota Bheem reflects our country’s storytelling ethos, rooted in tradition yet relevant to today’s audiences. We are thrilled to partner with the Publications Division to inspire young readers with this fresh comic series.”
The newly launched Chhota Bheem comic series by Green Gold Animation and the Publications Division is a timely example of how Indian intellectual properties (IPs) are expanding their reach. This is part of a broader emerging trend in Indian children’s entertainment, where popular television characters are crossing over into other media formats and digital platforms to amplify their cultural impact and commercial success.
A great illustration of this trend is how the iconic Indian TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC) recently saw the successful launch of mobile games based on the series. The games have crossed over 1 crore (10 million) downloads, tapping into the show's existing loyal fan base while attracting younger audiences through interactive digital engagement. This strategy emphasizes the growing importance of immersive experiences and diversified content channels beyond traditional TV broadcasting.
This collaboration builds on discussions from the recent WAVES Summit in Mumbai, where industry leaders and government officials emphasized strengthening India’s creative economy through culturally resonant, high-quality content. By presenting Indian-origin stories with universal appeal, the venture aims to captivate both domestic and global audiences.
