Highlights

  • Crunchyroll and Aniplex have officially announced Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a new theatrical anime film.
  • The movie will continue after season 2’s narrative.
  • The film marks the franchise’s first original theatrical project.

Crunchyroll has confirmed an upcoming theatrical movie adaptation of its hit manhwa adaptation, Solo Leveling, titled Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. During the Crunchyroll Showcase at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, the streamer and Aniplex unveiled a striking concept video for the upcoming film.

Solo Leveling Beyond the System will pick from season 2, Arise from the Shadow. However, whether it’s a narrative bridge between season 2 and season 3, which is currently in production, is not clear yet.

What We Know About Solo Leveling: Beyond the System Movie

Aniplex, D&C Media, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll are co-producing Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, with animation studio A-1 Pictures returning to animate the film. A-1 Pictures, which previously produced Sword Art Online and Your Lie in April, has been attached to the franchise since its announcement in 2022.

Solo Leveling season 2 ended with Sung Jinwoo’s raid on Jeju Island’s Ant King (Beru) and extracting him as his Shadow Soldier, reportedly adapting till chapter 110 of the original Manhwa. Sung Jinwoo’s English voice actor, Aleks Le, has teased the future narrative at Anime Expo, without confirming story arcs.

Thus far, only two production staff have been announced without any new cast or character information. Tao Tajima is serving in multiple key roles on Beyond the System film, including director, director of photography, editor, and colorist. Franchise veteran, Tomoko Sudo, returns as a key animator and character designer.

Neither Aniplex nor Crunchyroll has announced a theatrical release window for Solo Leveling Beyond the System, as of writing. However, reports, and social media posts circulating after the Anime Expo announcement have suggested a possible 2027 release window. Those claims remain unverified until the production committee announces a release schedule.

Where to Watch Solo Leveling: Beyond the System

Beyond the System has been announced as a theatrical anime feature, indicating that its first release will be in the cinemas. Crunchyroll, one of the film’s co-producers, is also expected to handle the streaming distribution. It carries both prior seasons of Solo Leveling anime worldwide.

Beyond the System reveal marks the first theatrical project for the franchise following the release of a compilation film, Solo Leveling -ReAwakening, in 2024. Despite being a compilation movie, ReAwakening grossed roughly $6.33 million USD globally in its limited run, according to Box Office Mojo.

The confirmation also comes after months of speculation and cryptic social media posts surrounding a probable Solo Leveling movie. Speculation about the movie first gained momentum in November 2025. Collider also reported an apparent 2026 release time for the rumored movie around the same time.

In early 2026, Solo Leveling producer Atsushi Kaneko also posted on X that fans could expect “something truly exciting might happen for ‘SL fans’!!”, without naming a project. Solo Leveling: Beyond the System confirmation gives the audience something intriguing as all of the franchise’s fonts remain in production.

Crunchyroll President confirmed in a June interview with Radio Times that  Solo Leveling season 3 is also in development. On the other hand, the franchise’s live-action adaptation, starring popular South Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok, has started production in May 2026, with no confirmed release window.
