Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Dubs Debut in India

One of anime’s most celebrated series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB), is becoming more accessible to Indian audiences with regional dubs. Crunchyroll has announced that it will bring Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubbed versions of the series in July across the country.

The TV anime, produced by Studio Bones, was a second take on Hiromu Arakawa’s manga Fullmetal Alchemist. Brotherhood holds significance as the most faithful adaptation of Arakawa’s work after the 2003 adaptation diverged from the original source.

FMAB debuted in 2009 with 64 episodes. It currently streams on Crunchyroll in Japanese and English dubs. A separate, earlier Hindi dub of the series aired through Anime Times and is available on Prime Video.

Fullmetal Alchemist follows orphaned brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric’s journey to find the Philosopher’s Stone to get their physical body parts back. The premise starts with the Elric's attempt to resurrect their mother through alchemy, which turns into a life-altering tragedy. 

Their search for the legendary Philosopher’s Stone becomes a journey through political conspiracies, military corruption, and conflicts with Homunculi, leading to a lore that traces back four decades prior to FMAB’s narrative start.

Beyond its action, the series has earned global acclaim for exploring themes of curiosity, morality, and the consequences of power. The original manga won several critical accolades, including the Shogakukan Manga Award in 2004 and 2011’s Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest anime of all time, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood held its position as the highest-rated series on MyAnimeList, the largest anime ranking database, for more than a decade. It was first overtaken by Frieren, then lost its second ranking to Re: Zero season 4, following its premiere in April. FMAB holds a 9.11 score on MAL, as of writing.

Where to Watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Dubs?

FMAB’s upcoming Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll in India from July 27. This will also mark the anime’s first-ever Tamil and Telugu adaptations. 

FMAB will receive a staggered release till October 2026, the streamer said. New batches of dubbed episodes will roll out every three weeks starting late July.

Crunchyroll has assembled separate Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu casts led by established Indian dubbing talent. Hindi actor Anubhav Rawat voices Edward Elric, while Abhineet Shukla plays Roy Mustang. Veteran Tamil performer Roshan N leads the Tamil cast as Edward, and Sai Abhijith S voices the protagonist in Telugu.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is joining a prior slate of Crunchyroll’s regional dub push, which includes catalog titles and Summer 2026 anime as well.

The expanding Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs matter beyond one title in India. Ken Research’s Indian anime market analysis noted that OTTs recorded around 30% anime viewership growth between 2020 and 2025 in the country due to regional dubbing.

A similar incident was prominent in 2025, when Demon Slayer Infinity Castle was distributed in regional dubs, making it the highest-grossing anime movie in the country. Additionally, India ranks third globally in anime viewership penetration at 41%, behind only Japan and China. 

For a growing anime market, expanding the core audience base is significant for theatrical releases and new anime projects. For Indian fans who have yet to experience the Elric brothers’ iconic journey, the localized release lowers one of the biggest barriers to entry without changing the series that has defined anime for generations.
