Kuro Onroad Debuts With Wuthering Waves: Elysium Anime
Kuro Games Launches In-House Anime Studio for Wuthering Waves
Kuro Games unveiled Wuthering Waves: Elysium, its new anime, built in-house through new studio Kuro Onroad.
Highlights
- Kuro Games has announced Wuthering Waves: Elysium, the franchise’s new anime project.
- While details remain limited, the teaser features familiar Wuthering Waves characters such as Rover and Cartethyia.
- The move reflects Kuro Games’ strategy to maintain greater creative control over adaptations.
Kuro Games is taking Wuthering Waves beyond gaming with the announcement of Wuthering Waves: Elysium anime. The project was unveiled on July 18, alongside a teaser trailer during the game’s To the New World concert tour in Shanghai.
Wuthering Waves: Elysium announcement also coincided with the public debut of Kuro Onroad, an animation label Kuro Games built internally to produce adaptations of its own titles. Elysium will be animated by Kuro Onroad.
Details About Wuthering Waves: Elysium Remain Scarce
Elysium's announcement lacked production staff information, plot details, and a potential release window. The anime will expand the Wuthering Waves franchise, launched worldwide in May 2024 as a free-to-play, open-world action RPG for PC and mobile.
The RPG later expanded to PlayStation 5 and, on Xbox Series X/S, in July 2026. The game follows protagonist Rover in a post-apocalyptic world, and his allies, other Resonators, in search of answers about a cataclysmic event called the Lament.
Although story details and creative members remain under wraps, the Wuthering Waves anime trailer features familiar characters, including Cartethyia and Rover’s female form. The trailer also shows a new unidentified character, who has not been introduced in the game’s narrative yet.
Kuro Onroad’s formation signals that Kuro Games intends to keep creative control over character design, tone, and pacing of its in-house productions. The establishment of a native animation studio also suggests that other titles of the gaming company might produce anime for its other popular titles. The company said future updates about Wuthering Waves: Elysium will be shared through Kuro Onroad’s social media accounts.
The timing is also significant for Elysium, with the current momentum of game-to-anime productions, with ongoing developments in Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding: Isolations adaptations. Wuthering Waves also posted an estimated $34 million USD in mobile revenue in June 2026, edging past other hit titles, including Genshin Impact.
Wuthering Waves generated its first $100M in revenue in only two months on the market back in 2024. The title received The Game Awards nominations for two consecutive years in 2024 and 2025, and won in the Players' Voice category in 2025.
