Highlights

  • A major legal recalibration has cut billions of won from ADOR’s damages claim, indicating a significant shift in the agency’s courtroom strategy.
  • What began as a big fallout between NewJeans and HYBE has evolved into a high-stakes legal battle that continues to reshape the group's future.
  • While some former members appear to be moving toward reconciliation, one key figure remains at the center of ADOR’s toughest legal stance.

The ADOR-HYBE legal case has reached a new turning point as legal sources confirmed that the agency has agreed to slash the damages claim against former NewJeans member Danielle, her family member, and ex-CEO Min Hee-jin by ₩10 billion (~ $6.41 million USD). Additionally, reports from the Korea JoongAng Daily note that the total amount reportedly dropped from ₩43.1B (~ $28M) to ₩33.1B (~ $21M).

According to an agency spokesperson cited by K-media sources, the appointment of new legal counsel pushed for a thorough structural review, prompting a modified claim setup. “A new legal representative was appointed and reviewed the case, restructuring the claims and partially adjusting the amount sought,” the spokesperson said, further adding that the entities will continue to develop their arguments ahead of a significant hearing that is scheduled for Thursday (June 11, 2026).

HYBE vs. NewJeans: From Emergency Press Conference to Courtroom Showdown

The origin of this multi-million-dollar feud traces back to November 2024, when the chart-topping group held an emergency press conference. Protesting against the sudden ousting of Min Hee-jin in a bitter corporate warfare with parent organization HYBE. Allegedly, when the K-pop group members tried to go independent, ADOR sued to challenge their contract validity. In October 2025, the court ruled in favor of the agency, after which most of them were ready to return to the company.

While the agency welcomed back Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni, it drew a hard line with Danielle. ADOR terminated her exclusive contract, citing her inability to function in the group. The company then filed an accountability suit due to delayed returns and group departures. On the other hand, the company reportedly is in positive discussions with Minji, however, any formal statement is yet to be issued regarding all of their return.
