Highlights

  • One Piece leads Netflix’s 2025 anime rankings with 643M hours, surpassing Naruto and Demon Slayer.
  • Legacy franchises dominate due to expansive episode libraries, driving binge behavior and higher cumulative watch time.
  • Modern titles like The Apothecary Diaries and Dandadan fall behind due to having fewer episode counts.

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece has claimed the top spot for Netflix's most-watched anime of 2025, accumulating 643M viewing hours across the platform. The figures, drawn from Netflix's combined What We Watched reports for first half (H1)  and second half (H2) of 2025, highlight that One Piece was ahead of the other Big 3, Naruto's 626M, and modern popular anime, Demon Slayer's 598M hours.

The result is particularly striking because One Piece's Netflix library is not complete; only 822 of the 1,158 numbered episodes are currently available on the platform. The franchise is also one of the most pirated anime worldwide, meaning a significant share of its global viewership bypasses legal platforms entirely.

One Piece still leading Netflix's annual chart underscores the sheer popularity of the IP's global reach. However, One Piece's lead was built largely on hour-volume, aided by its episode count.

In H1 2025, Netflix's What We Watched report placed Naruto Shippuden at the top with 45M views. One Piece franchise's watch hours also declined from 399.7M in H1 to 354.3M in H2, an 11.4% drop, indicating a slowdown in the latter half of the year.

Legacy Outweighs Modern Hits: Top 5 Most-Watched Anime on Netflix

The top five most-watched anime on Netflix in 2025 underscore the dominance of established franchises over recent critical hits. Alongside One Piece, titles such as Naruto, Pokémon, Hunter x Hunter, and The Seven Deadly Sins ranked among the platform’s ten most-streamed anime.

Naruto's 626M annual hours, putting the title at second rank, are notable given that its main series concluded in 2017 with no mainline releases in recent years. The entire franchise has surpassed 205.8M total views on Netflix since January 2023, with annual performance relatively consistent at 70.5M views in 2023 and 83.9M in 2024.

Demon Slayer closely followed Naruto and came in at the third position, despite the franchise having only 63 episodes and one film to its name. This per-episode efficiency is notable because it reflects that Demon Slayer was streamed by more people to reach 598M viewing hours.

Pokémon and The Seven Deadly Sins round out the top five, with 356M and 282M hours watched, respectively. Modern titles like The Apothecary Diaries and Dandadan, which received new seasons in 2025, also accounted for substantial viewing hours and ranked among the top ten anime.

On the other hand, anime viewership on Netflix reached 4.4B hours in the first half of 2025, growing at a rate ten times higher than all other media on the platform. Notably, legacy titans like Naruto, One Piece, and Hunter x Hunter accounted for 25% of total anime engagement on Netflix in 2025.

Netflix's streaming data shows long-running or multi-season franchises maintain stronger cumulative watch hours and engage audiences for a longer duration. This also reflects how catalog depth results in binge behavior, a key metric in Netflix’s recommendation system. With Netflix expanding its One Piece catalogue and the live-action also drawing audiences, 2026 will test whether the franchise can maintain its position when modern hits like Jujutsu Kaisen stream.

Disclaimer: The article considered total viewing hours (a cumulative data of how long a title was streamed) as ranking metrics, not views (how many times a title was watched).
