Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 7 Review & Recap
The episode begins a bit eerie as it makes Kenjaku feel almost caring and human, bringing others to safe places outside the colonies.
Highlights
- Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 7 brings all the main players to the Culling Game.
- Megumi Fushiguro explains the plan to join the games and add new rules.
- Hakari, Kogane, and Yuji still bring some cute moments to the show, as a call back to earlier seasons.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 7, titled Tokyo No 1 Colony Part 1, is a look into what a colony is, while also setting the tone for the rest of the JJK season 3’s Part 1. Ep 54 (in total) was a bit more funnier than expected. From Kogane’s appearance, Hakari Kinji’s change of heart, to Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro fighting over the latter's safety. It will remind you much of the earlier seasons of JJK, and is some needed comic relief given what we can expect in the rest of the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.
The episode does include more exposition about the game and what it means to actually be a part of one by entering a colony. Some of the essentials to remember about the Culling Game are –
- There are 10 colonies across Japan except Hokkaido.
- Kogane is every player’s own Shikegami who will help them through the game.
- Kenjaku is not the master of the game, but it runs more like a program endlessly
- The game will continue until it reaches a winner, creates enough cursed energy, or leads to humanity’s merger with Tengen.
JJK Season 3 Episode 7 Opening Scene
Tokyo No 1 Colony Part 1 does include some unforgettable moments, including the opening scene with Kenjaku walking out people from the colonies, giving them a chance to exit the game before it began. The scene takes place through Yuji’s friend Sasaki’s pov, as Kenjaku also thanks her for being good to his son (seemingly referring to Yuji).
Sasaki was part of season 1 as a friend of Yuji and a member of the Occult Club. This opening scene seems to be another sequence where Mappa has used rotoscoping, in which animators trace over live-action footage frame-by-frame to create realistic movement. It turned the scene more eerie as Kenjaku almost felt caring and human.
Coming back to the main group, the episode continues with a quick recap of the information shared by Yuji’s Kogane in JJK Season 3 Episode 6, who appears to inform them about a new rule being added to the game. Rule no 8: allows all users to find details of other players across colonies, their names, rules added, points, and more. While Hakari is still coming to terms with Gojo ensealment, the group has to start working on their aim to join the Culling Game. Hakari makes it a point to clear his intentions of joining the culling game, it's not out of his good heart, but how the higher-ups in the Jujutsu World can be open to his business.
Another memorable moment in the episode comes when Fushiguro confirms that he is the Zenin Clan’s leader, and it completely melts Hakari’s heart, in hopes that Zenin backing him up will change his future completely. However, he is unaware that within hours, the Zenin clan will be completely wiped out by Maki.
The Plan To Save Fushiguro’s sister, Find Angel, and Unseal Gojo
The plan is more about finding anyone who has more than 100 points and convincing them to use it to add another rule. Fushiguro hopes to add two rules: one, which will let them transfer points among themselves, and two, where enough points can give a player a chance to quit the game. None of them is sure if the second rule would be accepted, but they begin their search anyway.
Panda joins Hakari to find Hajime Kashimo, and Yuji, with Fushiguro, enter the Tokyo Colony 1 to find Hiromi Higuruma. Kirara Hoshi is left outside the barriers, their only point of contact with others outside. They still have to find Angel, who is capable of breaking the Prison Real’s seal, and are unable to locate her through Kogane.
On entering the colony, Fushiguro is granted his own Shikegami, but the two are separated and teleported to two different parts of the colony. With the same goal in mind, Fushiguro isn’t worried about finding Yuji, only that Yuji will be too soft to gain points in any battle. Both begin their journey towards their target, Higurama, but they first have to go through some battles.
JJK Episode 54 Ends At An Intriguing Cliffhanger Ending
Fushiguro comes face to face with a player named Remi who pretends to be weak. Meanwhile, Yuji meets another player named Rin Amai, who claims to know him from his old town days. Yuji is quick to believe Rin and begins following him to find Higurama in Ikebukuro. On the other hand, Remi claims Higurama is in Shinjuku, leading Fushiguro to another part of the colony.
The preview hints at Itadori being led to a trap with no sign of him actually meeting Higurama yet. As for the manga, Mappa has skipped Chapter 159, which gives a backstory in Higurama’s and his powers, but jumped directly to Chapter 160, which introduces the colony. We might still get to see more about the law-abiding sorcerer in the upcoming episode JJK Season 3 Episode 8 as he may finally make his debut.
