Highlights
- Faye's standalone adventure will arrive later than originally scheduled.
- Santa Monica Studio is prioritizing additional development time over the initial launch window.
- The revised release places the game among PlayStation's major 2027 launches.
Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey by three months, moving its PS5 release from Feb 16 to May 20, 2027. Announced on Nov 4, 2026, the revised schedule gives the development team additional time to complete Faye's adventure and refine the game before launch.
In its official statement, the studio acknowledged the response to the game's June 2026 reveal and thanked fans for trusting the team with the franchise.
It stated that the extra time would allow developers to add the finishing touches and push the project to its "fullest potential." Santa Monica Studio has not identified any specific development issues behind the decision.
What is Faye's Story in God of War Laufey?
The game follows Faye, whose death before the events of God of War (2018) sets that game's story in motion. She awakens in the afterlife, known as the Everywhen, and begins an adventure that runs parallel to Kratos and Atreus' journeys in God of War and God of War Ragnarök.
Unlike those entries, Faye takes the lead as the protagonist. Her journey also features a talking jelly cube, adding an unusual companion to the adventure.
The studio appreciated fans' patience and promised more updates before launch.
