Publisher Shueisha has announced that the Hunter X Hunter Volume 39 will be released on July 3, 2026. The new volume marks the first tankōbon release for the series in nearly 22 months, after Volume 38 was released in September 2024.
Hunter X Hunter Volume 39 will compile chapters 401 through 410 of the manga, continuing the Succession Contest arc in the Dark Continent. Chapters 401- 410 were released across Weekly Shonen Jump magazine’s 2024 issue 45 to issue 02 of 2025. The volume is priced at ¥572 ($3.58 USD).
The Hunter X Hunter manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi has been publishing the manga while managing chronic health issues that have repeatedly interrupted production. In April 2026, Togashi revealed that he had completed the inking for manga chapters up to 430, and chapters beyond 420 would be released in the near future
Hunter x Hunter’s Publishing Return Highlights Ongoing Serialization Challenges
The announcement of Hunter x Hunter Volume 39 comes as readers continue to monitor the future of one of the popular classic manga properties. First launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 1998, the series has been running for over 28 years, although not continuously.
Togashi has publicly discussed health complications in recent years, which makes it difficult for him to sit and draw regularly. To ease the situation, back in 2022, Shueisha announced that the Hunter x Hunter manga would stop following a fixed weekly schedule, allowing the author and editorial team to determine publication timing.
The manga went on hiatus previously as well. In 2023, Togashi cited health issues for another hiatus. Togashi informed that he completed the Hunter x Hunter manga chapter 401 back in March 2023. More than a year later, in May 2024, he shared a progress update of chapter 405.
Nonetheless, Hunter x Hunter Volume 39’s July release will finally bring these chapters, which took almost two years to complete, in a collected volume. Despite serialization constraints, the manga has surpassed 84M copies in circulation worldwide.
