Netflix and the anime’s production team have confirmed that Sakamoto Days season 2 will premiere in January 2027. The June 24 announcement arrived alongside a teaser trailer, new key visual, and updates to the anime’s production staff.
The upcoming season continues the adaptation of Yuto Suzuki’s manga, following the first season’s finale, released on Sep 22, 2025. Sakamoto Days season 2 adapts from the manga’s JCC Infiltration Arc and likely from Taro Sakamoto's Past Arc, however full narrative has not been revealed.
Sakamoto Days manga, which started serializing in 2020, is one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s fastest-growing shōnen series. The manga has surpassed 15M copies in circulation worldwide within six years of its debut.
Sakamoto Days Season 2 Plot and Production Details
Sakamoto Days season 2 brings a directorial change. Daisuke Nakajima, who directed episode 22 of the first season, takes over as the new director. The first season director, Masaki Watanabe, is also attached to the production as a supervising director at TMS Entertainment.
Nakajima said in a statement that he intends to “spare nothing” in animating the franchise's action, while crediting Watanabe’s work on the first season. The season will reveal the shared history of a young Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion, and Slur, teasing an action-heavy narrative that defined Sakamoto Days season 1.
The second season starts with Sakamoto and his protégé Shin infiltrating JCC (Japan Cleaner Culture) to uncover intelligence on X (aka Slur/Kei Uzuki). JCC is Japan’s assassin training institution in this anime’s world.
The new teaser highlights several major characters from the previous season, including Akira Akao and Natsuki Seba, who will play key roles. Many new characters were glimpsed in the trailer.
Among some key characters, a founding ORDER member, Yotsumura, and Taro Sakamoto’s teacher, Satota, were previewed in the Sakamoto Days season 2 trailer. A manga-popular JCC student, Amane, was also seen in fighting sequences.
Three new cast members, Kikunosuke Toya, Misa Watanabe, and Shinshū Fuji, join the production for the newly introduced characters. Taku Kishimoto and Yo Moriyama return from the previous production team as series composer and character designer, respectively.
Where to Watch Sakamoto Days Season 2?
Sakamoto Days season 2 will exclusively premiere on Netflix in January. The series’ first season also streamed on Netflix, following a two-cour run in 2025.
Sakamoto Days season 1 was also broadcast on TV Tokyo-affiliated channels in Japan. However, the broadcast details for the upcoming season have not been announced yet.
Season 1 was available in Japanese with subtitles in many languages and received dubbed versions in major international markets, including English. Netflix has not yet detailed season 2’s dub rollout, but is expected to continue its multilingual release strategy.
The renewal arrives as the Sakamoto Days franchise builds momentum across formats. The franchise recently received a live-action film adaptation, which debuted on April 29. The movie accumulated roughly ¥1.5 billion (~$9.58 million USD) over its first eight days.
Sakamoto Days anime’s first season was Netflix’s most-streamed anime globally in the first half of 2025, drawing 24.4M views and surpassing 106M hours streamed, according to the platform's engagement report. While the adaptation drew strong viewership on Netflix, the first cour specifically faced scrutiny from some fans regarding animation quality. For the upcoming season 2, the success will depend on how Netflix and TMS handle previous comments and narrative integrity.
