California-based video game publisher, Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), has announced the Battlefield 6 esports circuit, with its battle royale element, Battlefield REDSEC, as the franchise’s “first step for competitive Battlefield’s Future.” On Nov. 20, EA introduced ‘Battlefield REDSEC Elite Series’ and ‘Battlefield REDSEC Open Series,’ with a cumulative prize pool of $1M.
The new circuit comprises two tiers: the Elite Series for professional teams and the Open Series for amateur competitors, spanning across EMEA, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. According to EA’s announcement, the Elite Series begins on Dec. 10, followed by the Open Series on Dec. 12, with all matches conducted online.
EA also mentioned that participating in the tournament would not depend on players’ choices of device; competitions will be in a cross-platform and cross-input setting. One can play on a PC, console, controller, or mouse and keyboard, as they wish.
The decision to invest in a multi-region, multi-tier circuit comes as the Battlefield franchise experiences a commercial resurgence. Battlefield 6, emerging as the best-selling FPS title of 2025, offers EA a stronger foundation to build a wider competitive ecosystem and maintain engagement beyond initial sales.
Format of the REDSEC Elite Series
This will be a weekly series, running from Dec. 10- Jan. 18. REDSEC Elite Series features Battle Royale and Gauntlet mode as qualifiers for the Season Finals, starting on Dec. 18. Matches will rotate between REDSEC’s Battle Royale and Gauntlet modes for three days, with top 25 teams earning most Elite Series Points advancing to the final round, in each region.
The Elite Series is positioned as Battlefield’s primary professional tier, featuring a multi-stage structure designed to introduce competitive consistency across regions. It features a draft-based competitive format, with EA inviting 50 team captains, who then pick three additional players to form four-player squads.
In addition to the $1M prize pool, EA has allotted tens of thousands of dollars for the top four teams of each match over all three Qualifying Match Days and the Season Finals. Prize distribution varies significantly by region. The Americas Elite Finals awards $50K for each qualifying match day, and features a $500K prize pool split across all participating squads in the Finals Gauntlet. Similarly, the EMEA and APAC will distribute $285K for the finals Gauntlets and $20K for each Qualifying Match Day.
REDSEC Open Series: Ladder to Become an 'Elite'
The Open Series functions as the entry pathway for aspiring competitors. Unlike the invitee structure in the Elite Series, EA stated that for this tournament, one can independently register their squad through their Open Series tournament partner, Repeat.gg.
Similar to the Elite Series, it will feature Battle Royale and Gauntlet matches as qualifiers for the Season Finals, slated for Jan. 17, 2026. The finals will feature the 250 best teams from each region, with the top eight teams advancing to the next season’s Battlefield REDSEC Elite Series.
Strong performance in the Open Series grants teams visibility and a chance to win the $10K prize money in each region. With future Elite considerations and a dedicated prize pool, EA has effectively created a talent pipeline within REDSEC’s competitive ecosystem with the Open Series.
EA’s new Battlefield REDSEC circuit signals a renewed long-term commitment to competitive infrastructure, an area the franchise has historically avoided due to its scale and technical demands. With REDSEC, EA is taking its most formal step yet, establishing multi-tier competition, consistent scheduling, unified formats and a material prize pool.
