  • Krafton doubles BMPS grand finals prize pool to ₹4 crore, a new record for Indian mobile esports.

  • The boost from ₹2 crore highlights BGMI’s rising prominence in India’s competitive gaming scene.

  • It marks the largest prize pool ever for a BGMI tournament in the country.

South Korean gaming company Krafton Inc's Indian unit has doubled the prize pool for its Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) grand finals to 4 crore rupees ($466,000), setting a new record for the country's mobile esports sector.

The prize money increase from the previously announced 2 crore rupees represents the largest prize pool ever offered for a Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) tournament, reflecting the rapid growth of competitive mobile gaming in the world's most populous nation.

Sixteen teams will compete in the BMPS 2025 Grand Finals at New Delhi's Yashobhoomi Convention Centre from July 4-6, including established squads iQOO 8BIT and OnePlus Gods Reign. The finalists emerged from a tournament that began in May with 96 invited teams.

"The INR 4 crore prize pool is a landmark moment, not just for BMPS, but for the broader Indian Esports ecosystem," said Karan Pathak, associate director of esports at Krafton India. "It reflects the explosive growth of competitive gaming in the country and the unwavering passion of our BGMI community."

The prize pool enhancement was funded through an in-game event called "Discovery Island," where BGMI players earned points by participating in matches, unlocking community milestones that incrementally increased the professional tournament's prize money.

BGMI has emerged as India's leading mobile battle royale game after authorities banned PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Mobile (PUBG Mobile) in 2020 over data security concerns related to its Chinese publisher Tencent Holdings Ltd.

The tournament is part of India's expanding esports market, which industry estimates suggest could reach $175 million by 2025. Mobile gaming dominates the sector due to widespread smartphone adoption and limited access to gaming PCs and consoles.

Event tickets are available through food delivery platform Swiggy's entertainment booking service. The finals are expected to draw significant online viewership as India's mobile gaming audience continues to expand.

Krafton, which also publishes the original PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PC game, has been investing heavily in the Indian market since BGMI's launch as a localized version specifically for Indian players.
