The world of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is set to expand with the announcement of a new fighting video game and an animated YouTube series. The reveals were made during a panel at New York Comic Con celebrating the 20th anniversary of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series.

The new fighting game, with the working title Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, is a one-on-one fighter game being developed by Gameplay Group International, the studio known for Them’s Fightin’ Herds. It is targeting a summer 2026 release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

New fighting game and Animated shorts are coming in 2026

The game will feature a hand-drawn 2D art style designed to emulate the original animated series. It will launch with a roster of 12 characters, with confirmed fighters including Aang, Korra, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Toph, and Azula.

Key features announced for the game include a single-player campaign with an original story, a unique “Flow System” designed for movement-centric combat, combo trials, and a gallery mode.

The developers also confirmed the game will launch with cross-platform online play and "best-in-class" rollback netcode for a smooth multiplayer experience.

In addition to the fighting game, a new chibi-style 2D animated series of shorts was announced, which will be available on YouTube. These shorts will reimagine classic scenes from the original "Avatar" series and the comics, as well as feature original stories. One of the first videos shown was a parody of the series premiere, in which Katara and Sokka discover Aang.

The panel for the game and series announcement was also attended by the original cast members Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Dante Basco (Zuko), and Mae Whitman (Katara), as well as co-creator Bryan Konietzko.

These new projects are part of a larger expansion of the "Avatar" universe. A sequel series, titled "Avatar: Seven Havens", which will follow the Avatar after Korra, is in the works. Additionally, a feature film, "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender", is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
