Why a Multi-Million Dollar Debut Isn't Enough.
Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Earns $2.1 Million in First Month
A $2.1 million launch is a win for most games but just a starting point in the shadow of their billion-dollar siblings.
Highlights
- The new Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra game earned $2.1 million in its first month on mobile.
- This debut is solid but significantly smaller than the initial launches of franchise hits Dokkan Battle and Legends.
- The total revenue is likely higher, as this figure excludes earnings from PC and console versions.
Bandai Namco's latest mobile entry in the Dragon Ball universe, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra, has made a solid debut. The new 4v4 tactical game, which launched on September 10, 2025, has generated an estimated $2.1 million in global player spending in its first month. While that's a successful start for many new titles, the figure shows the tough challenge of launching a new game in the shadow of its powerhouse siblings.
According to data from industry analytics firm AppMagic, daily player spending for the new title averaged around $71,000 per day, with a peak of $103,000 on September 25th. The game, developed by Japanese studio Ganbarion, has found its biggest audience in the West.
Players in the United States are leading the charge, accounting for a massive 46% of all revenue. The franchise's home market of Japan followed with 22%, and France rounded out the top three with 5%.
A Look at the $2.1 Million Launch
While $2.1 million is a successful launch for many new mobile games, it pales in comparison to the franchise's other titans. The figure, as reported by Pocketgamer, represents just 8% of the colossal $26.3 million that Dragon Ball Legends earned in its first 30 days back in 2018. Even the long-running Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle had a stronger mobile launch in 2015 with $3 million.
Those two games have become financial powerhouses for Bandai Namco, setting an incredibly high bar for any new entry. To date, Dokkan Battle and Legends have generated a staggering $4.4 billion and $1.6 billion in lifetime revenue, respectively, and continue to earn millions each month.
Industry analysts point out that Gekishin Squadra has entered a far more crowded and competitive mobile gaming landscape in 2025 than its predecessors faced. The game must compete for attention not only against other major titles but also against its own beloved and well-established family members, potentially leading to some audience crossover.
However, the $2.1 million figure currently only reflects mobile spending. The game features full cross-play and cross-progression with PC and consoles, meaning its total earnings are likely to be significantly higher. The numbers for these other platforms have not yet been released.
Ultimately, the game's launch figures highlight the unique challenge of a globally recognised IP: a debut that would be a clear victory for most is seen as just a starting point for a brand as powerful as Dragon Ball.
The long-term success of Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra will now likely depend on its post-launch content roadmap, unique event offerings, and its ability to carve out a distinct identity separate from its high-earning siblings. Bandai Namco has not yet released an official statement on the game's initial performance.
