Epic Games' Fortnite introduced content from Sony Pictures Imageworks' animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters," the latest in a string of cross-media collaborations designed to keep players engaged in the free-to-play battle royale game.

The partnership, which went live Oct. 2, brings three characters from the film's fictional band Huntr/x into Fortnite's digital storefront. Players can purchase Rumi, Mira and Zoey individually or as a bundle, each equipped with character-specific cosmetic items including outfits and emotes.

Epic is also offering limited-time quests that unlock themed accessories, such as weapons and items from the film, across multiple game modes including Battle Royale and Reload.

Fortnite Demon Rush Mode Features K-Pop Demon Hunters Antagonists

The centerpiece of the tie-in is Demon Rush, a modified version of Fortnite's existing Horde Rush mode. The update introduces antagonists from the movie and tasks players with surviving successive waves of enemies while unlocking character abilities between rounds. The mode will run through Nov. 2.

Epic has made film-related assets available to creators through Fortnite Creative, its user-generated content platform, and waived the typical review period to accelerate publishing. The move reflects the company's broader push to position Fortnite as a destination for community-built experiences beyond its core gameplay.

Voice actress Rei Ami previewed the collaboration on social media last week. The partnership carries technical significance: "K-Pop Demon Hunters" used Epic's Unreal Engine 5 for production, the same technology that powers Fortnite and has gained adoption in Hollywood, including on Disney's "The Mandalorian."

Fortnite has pursued similar deals with Daft Punk, Power Rangers and other entertainment properties as Epic seeks to expand the game's role as a cultural platform. The strategy has helped maintain player interest in a title first released in 2017, though Epic doesn't disclose specific engagement or revenue figures for individual collaborations.
