The massively popular anime franchise The Seven Deadly Sins is making its most significant leap into gaming yet, following a major announcement at The Game Awards 2025. Developer Netmarble stunned fans and the global livestreaming audience by officially confirming that The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will launch globally on January 28, 2026. Developed by the same studio behind the hit Solo Leveling: Arise, this new title promises a console-quality experience powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game will be available on mobile, PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5 as a console exclusive, bringing the vibrant world of Britannia to life with unprecedented detail.

Unlike previous adaptations that simply retold the anime’s known plot, Origin introduces a fresh "multiverse" storyline that serves as a true sequel and spinoff. Players will step into the shoes of Tristan Liones, the son of the series' legendary protagonists, Meliodas and Elizabeth.

This narrative approach allows fans to explore a new history where familiar events unfold differently, effectively bridging the gap between the original series and the Four Knights of the Apocalypse sequel. This design choice offers a narrative that feels nostalgic yet entirely new, bound to surprise even the most hardcore followers of the franchise.

Open-World Co-Op Gameplay

The game positions itself as a high-fidelity open-world action RPG, drawing strong comparisons to genre titans like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. However, Origin distinguishes itself with a heavy focus on cooperative play. The latest trailer highlighted real-time tag-based battles where players can switch characters on the fly to execute devastating combo skills.

A standout feature is the inclusion of cooperative raid battles, which require teams of players to strategize together to defeat massive bosses. Exploration is equally robust, allowing players to traverse the continent using flying mounts, running across water, and diving underwater to solve puzzles using character-specific skills.

This release represents a significant moment for anime video game adaptations and Netflix's broader entertainment strategy. With the original manga selling over 55 million copies worldwide and the anime remaining a top performer on Netflix, the franchise is a cultural heavyweight.

Netmarble aims to utilize Unreal Engine 5 to break the cheap anime tie-in curse, delivering a visual spectacle that rivals standalone console RPGs. This potential was recently recognized by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which featured the game in an advertisement as one of the most highly anticipated PS5 titles, garnering nearly 400K views.

The launch of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin will kick off a massive year for both gaming and anime. The January 2026 release window places it alongside major PlayStation releases like Marvel's Wolverine, Resident Evil Requiem, and 007 First Light

Simultaneously, the anime industry is gearing up for a strong year with new seasons of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Jujutsu Kaisen, and The Apothecary Diaries, alongside Netflix's One Piece projects. Confidence in the game is already high; a closed beta test performed in October revealed that 95% of respondents expressed a strong interest in continuing to play post-launch. Pre-registration is currently open on official channels for fans eager to secure rewards before the January launch.
