Nintendo has confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold 12.3M copies worldwide by Dec 31, 2025. The figure was disclosed on Feb 3 in Nintendo’s Financial Results for the third quarter (Q3) of Fiscal Year ending March 2026.
According to the report, the data combines digital and physical sales of the game on both Switch and Switch 2 consoles. Roughly 8.4M units were sold on the Nintendo Switch, which depicts the digital sales for both consoles. The additional 3.89M copy-sale came from the sales of the physical “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” versions released for the Switch 2.
The title launched globally on Oct 16, 2025, as the next major evolution of the Pokémon Legends sub-series. Pokémon Legends: Z-A had strong early momentum; the game sold over 5.8M copies within the first four days of its release.
As per the sales report, most of the sales came from markets outside Japan. On Switch, the sales figure was 5.33M units outside Japan, and for Switch 2, it was 2.76M units.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sales in the Context of the Franchise
With strong sales in its opening months, Legends: Z-A ranks among the other stronger performers within the Pokémon franchise. The sales figure is close to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which also sold around 12M copies within the first two months and eventually hit 14.83M units sold by 2023.
The title is currently the 16th highest-selling Pokémon game, trailing behind Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Other Pokémon franchise games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Sword and Shield observed sustained sales during the Q3 FY2026. Both titles grossed 28.08 M and 27.08M copies sold in lifetime sales by Dec 31, 2025.
The strong performance of Legends: Z-A reinforces the Pokémon franchise’s position as a key driver of Nintendo’s revenue. Nintendo has already signaled that multiple Pokémon projects are in development for both Switch and Switch 2, such as Pokémon Champions and Pokémon Pokopia. Both titles will release in 2026, with the life-simulation Pokopia project launching on March 5, 2026, for Switch 2.
