PS5 Dominates UK Black Friday Console Sales With 62% Market Share
Heavy PS5 discounts drive 62% of the U.K. console market share during Black Friday 2025
Highlights
- PS5 captured 62% of the U.K. console market during Black Friday 2025, led by deep price cuts across all models.
- PS5 Pro hit a record-low £586 (approximately $781 USD) and delivered its best sales week outside of launch.
- U.K. console sales rose year-on-year, with revenue up 14% and unit sales up 7%, driven primarily by PlayStation.
The PlayStation 5 (PS5) dominated Black Friday 2025 console sales in the U.K., capturing 62% of the hardware market during the week, according to NielsenIQ data published by The Game Business. The performance was driven by heavy discounting across PS5 models, with the PS5 Pro recording its best sales week outside of launch after achieving its lowest-ever price.
U.K. console sales were stronger year-on-year during Black Friday, with hardware revenue up 14% and unit sales up 7% compared to 2024. PS5 was the only platform to outperform its own previous Black Friday sales, with unit sales rising 16% year-on-year.
As Christopher Dring reported, “Nintendo Switch 2 did ok, the data firm says, but it was PS5 that was the biggest driver.”
PS5 Black Friday U.K. Sales Driven by Heavy Discounts
Discounting played a decisive role in Sony’s performance, as the PS5 Slim 1TB model dropped 21% in price compared to two weeks earlier, while the PS5 Slim 825GB Digital Edition fell by 34%. The PS5 Pro dropped to £586 (approximately $781 USD), its lowest price on record, and delivered its strongest sales week outside of launch.
The average PS5 selling price fell to £340 (~ $453), only the seventh time it has dropped below £400 (~ $534) in the U.K.
By comparison, the Xbox Series X and S accounted for 10% of U.K. hardware sales, with an average selling price of £385 (~ $514), down 8% over two weeks. The Nintendo Switch 2 secured a 23% share, though this was lower than earlier post-launch weeks, with an average price of £405 (approximately $540), reflecting a limited 3% reduction. The older Switch 1 took 5% of the market.
A Dec. 7, 2025, update showed a similar trend in the U.S., where PS5 led Black Friday hardware sales with a 47% share, followed by Nintendo Switch 2 at 24%, while Xbox trailed behind both platforms.
The results underline how aggressive pricing continues to shape late-generation console competition, with PS5 maintaining a decisive lead in the U.K. market five years after launch.
