Daemons of the Shadow Realm, the long-anticipated anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, is confirmed to premiere on April 4, 2026. The official announcement on Feb 2, 2026, also unveiled new promotional visuals and expanded production details.
Originally announced in July 2025 during Crunchyroll’s Anime Expo panel, the adaptation was part of a broader initiative to bring high-profile manga IPs to global anime audiences. Daemons of the Shadow Realm is adapted from Arakawa’s Yomi no Tsugai, a supernatural action manga serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan since December 2021 under Square Enix.
The original manga narrative follows a pair of twins, Yuru and Asa. The English version of the manga description highlights that they were separated as young kids and “must fight to make their way back to each other, claim their birthright, and save the world.”
Production Details of Daemons of the Shadow Realm Anime
The newly released visuals and the trailer showcase intense action-driven fighting scenes and fantasy elements, typical of most of Bones Film’s production. Bones has also been behind the adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist and popular modern anime like My Hero Academia.
Director Masahiro Andō, known for Sword of the Stranger, leads the project, with Noboru Takagi handling the series composition. Nobuhiro Arai, who has previously worked on popular anime Bungo Stray Dogs, has handled the character design.
Kenichiro Suehiro has composed the music for the upcoming anime adaptation. The trailer has also offered a look at official music contributions by Japanese artists Vaundy and yama. Vaundy performed the opening song, Tobu Toki, and yama, the closing song, Tobou yo.
Along with the key visual and new trailer, Daemons of the Shadow Realm anime’s website also unveiled four additional cast members: Left, Right, Jin, and Hana. Takako Honda will play Left and Rikiya Koyama, Right. The character of Jin will be voiced by Junichi Suwabe, with Miyuri Shimabukuro taking up the role of Hana.
As announced previously, Kenshō Ono will take the role of Yuru, while Yume Miyamoto will play Asa. The other two notable characters from the manga, Gabu-Chan and Dera, will be played by Misaki Kuno and Yūichi Nakamura, respectively.
The anime is reported to run for two consecutive cours in 2026, with Crunchyroll having the streaming rights as of now. The platform will stream the anime across North, Central, and South America, Europe, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa, and Oceania. Before streaming, the anime will be broadcast on various Japanese TV channels, including TOKYO MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11, at 11:30 pm JST.
Additionally, to celebrate the adaptation of Arakawa’s manga, special screenings of the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise have been announced. Also declared is a pre-screening and talk event of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, scheduled for March 22, 2026, with appearances of some production staff.
