Dwayne Bravo Backs Soon-to-be Launched Animated Cricket Series
An animated cricket franchise, backed by cricketer “DJ” Bravo, is reportedly set for a global multiple sector launch, including India.
- “DJ” Bravo’s animation series aims to target the $12.5B USD cricket market.
- The former Chennai Super Kings player's athletic reputation and pop culture reach is influential for the series.
- The creative team includes industry veterans and a former Miss Universe.
Dwayne "DJ" Bravo is leading Champions of the Galaxy, a $5 million USD animated franchise based on cricket, particularly intended for audiences across India, the Caribbean, Pakistan, Australia, and the U.K. The project is a “groundbreaking sci-fi sports adventure — a vibrant blend of intergalactic cricket, cultural diversity, and cosmic fun aimed at children aged 6 to 13.”
Dwayne Bravo’s cricket anime creators further state the series to be a “cousin to Lilo & Stitch, combining whimsical humor with futuristic storytelling and traditional sport.” They say that their message is “simple yet profound: cricket can unite the galaxy.”
Dwayne Bravo’s Project to Tap into Cricket’s Global Fanbase
The Dwayne Bravo-backed cricket show, Champions of the Galaxy, plans to premiere through OTT and broadcast partnerships, with support from mobile gaming, music, live events, and merchandising. It is produced by Animae Caribe House in collaboration with India's PowerKids Entertainment, who plan to leverage the 2.5 billion viewership of the sport, primarily targeting the Indian Premier League (IPL) demographics.
Dwayne Bravo began his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians (2008-2010) and rose to prominence with the Chennai Super Kings (2011-2015, 2018-2022), where he won the Purple Cap twice. After retirement, he started coaching and mentoring CSK, eventually joining the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2025.
According to World Cricket Data, the global cricket market is valued at about $12.5B USD annually. This includes broadcasting rights, merchandise, ticket sales, sponsorships, digital content, and other cricket-related activities.
Broadcasting accounts for around 65% of revenue, followed by merchandising (12%), ticket sales (10%), sponsorships (8%), and digital content (5%). India dominates the market (by roughly 79% of the worldwide market value), with 66.1% of the population identifying as cricket lovers.
Noting this, the stakeholders associated with the project hope to transform the series into an internationally appealing animated property rooted in cricket's shared fandom.
Dwayne Bravo Backs the Creative Team
Dwayne Bravo’s athletic reputation and pop culture reach, coupled with his hit Champion (159M YouTube views) influences the franchise's concept. The team behind the project consists of Animae Caribe founder Camille Selvon Abrahams, strategist Bruno Zarka, animation veteran Alice Dizon Manuel, and former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam.
PowerKids' Manoj Mishra will reportedly act as a distribution partner in the project. PowerKids has grown its international distribution over time, enabling the content to reach global markets, particularly the Asia Pacific region.
Champions of the Galaxy is viewed as a cultural export as well as a commercial experiment by stakeholders. The production is set to begin immediately, with an international deployment planned for early 2026 and conclusion by late 2026 or early 2027.
