  • The K-Musical International Market signals a new chapter as Korean original musicals start running for a bigger share of the global live entertainment business.
  • Held at the COEX Seoul, the event had a significant increase in attendance by a 1,000-person figure, since last year.
  • The K-Musical International Market 2026 depicts how the Korea Arts Management Service is increasingly looking for overseas expansion via global partnerships.

The global footprint of Hallyu is growing beyond stadium pop and streaming dramas into live theater. The K-Musical International Market 2026 opened on June 29, 2026, at the COEX Seoul musical event space, bringing in local and global industry officials to negotiate the next phase of the Korean performing arts. As international markets open, the five-day event aims for the Korean original musicals to shift from being just regional hits to high-value global intellectual property (IP).

The K-Musical International Market 2026 was organized by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service. This year's forum is expected to welcome around 4,000 attendees, up from 3,000 last year. The event has quickly become an important hub for Korean musical investment, licensing, and global co-productions, depicting a strategic push for the Korean musical industry’s overseas expansion.

K-Musical Showcase and Pitching Features 41 Productions

The event featured K-Musical pitching and showcase programs, which introduced 41 promising domestic and international works. The pitching block includes 20 homegrown productions alongside 11 global properties supported by regional powerhouses like Japan’s Toho, the Guangzhou Opera House of China, and the Taipei Performing Arts Center. Standout original works are positioned to gain slots at the Global Songwriter Showcase in Japan or the K-Musical Roadshow in Hong Kong.

Simultaneously, eight original Korean productions are presenting 40-minute showcases, vying for a coveted stage at the K-Musical Roadshow in London. As part of the inaugural global showcase, audiences will get their first look at two overseas productions, namely, Japan's Demon Slayer and China's Mer Sam.

350 Business Meetings to Drive Global Deals?

For industry stakeholders, the event is projected to drive cross-border collaboration through more than 350 one-on-one business meetings encompassing 13 domestic and 26 overseas companies. Key international producers like James Steel Production, Watanabe Entertainment, and China's Zhejiang Dafeng Culture Development Co. will participate to explore partnership opportunities with Korean producers. On the other hand, at the "One Asia Network" roundtable, industry representatives from Korea, China, and Japan will together discuss frameworks for Asian co-productions and regional distribution cooperation.

"The global market's interest in Korean original musicals is higher than ever," said Kim Jang-ho, CEO of the Korea Arts Management Service, as noted by Seoul Economic Daily. Since the global market acts as a primary catalyst for broader Asian cultural exchange, the curtains are slowly rising on these cross-border deals, proving that the business of K-culture can dominate a live stage far beyond the recording studio or stadium tours.
