Sony is adding a dedicated Crunchyroll anime hub to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) home screen in spring 2027. The new section will bring anime discovery, anime-inspired games, and direct access to Crunchyroll into one destination.
The announcement was made by Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO, Hideaki Nishino, at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, where Sony also unveiled Crunchyroll Storyworks.
What Does the Crunchyroll Hub Add to PS5?
The hub is intended to help PS users discover anime through games, characters, and worlds they already know, while providing access to the full Crunchyroll app.
Crunchyroll has been available on PS5 since the console launched in 2020, but the new feature will bring the service closer to the console’s core home-screen experience. Crunchyroll says anime and gaming have overlapping fan communities that the new experience will bring closer together on PS5.
Crunchyroll President, Rahul Purini, linked the move to the companies' wider partnership, including the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. “Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation,” Purini stated.
Sony Expands Crunchyroll Integration Across PS5
Sony completed its $1.175B USD acquisition of Crunchyroll through Funimation in 2021. The PS5 now has more than 95M cumulative hardware units shipped worldwide as of June 30, 2026.
The announcement follows Sony’s August 2026 launch of Live TV on PS5 in the U.S., offering more than 100 free ad-supported channels, including Crunchyroll anime content. Sony Pictures Television plans to expand the service to additional markets.
The 2027 hub therefore gives Sony another way to connect its gaming audience with its anime business, while making Crunchyroll more visible within the PS5 ecosystem.
