Highlights

  • Yokoso Scooby-Doo! anime becomes the franchise’s first anime series adaptation.
  • Global distribution strategy includes Tubi for North America and Cartoon Network for international broadcast, expanding reach.
  • Warner Bros. Animation x OLM collaboration for Yokoso Scooby-Doo! highlights cross-cultural anime production trends.

Warner Bros. Animation is expanding the Scooby-Doo franchise with Yokoso Scooby-Doo! (tr. "Welcome Scooby-Doo!") the first original anime series in the franchise's 57-year history. On May 18, Tubi acquired the exclusive streaming rights for North America, while Cartoon Network will carry the series internationally.

The series follows Scooby-Doo and Shaggy as they visit Japan on a foodie adventure, accidentally unleashing hundreds of mythical monsters across the country. The pair team up with Scooby’s uncle Daisuke-Doo and two new characters, magical girl Yume and tech specialist Takumi.

Yokoso Scooby-Doo! aims to broaden the franchise footprint by attracting both anime fandom and older generations. “As we grow our animation slate, this is exactly our brand of fan-first storytelling— familiar, surprising,” Tubi chief content officer Adam Lewinson emphasized about the cross-generational pull of blending anime with classic IP.

Scooby-Doo franchise voice regulars Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard return as Scooby and Shaggy, respectively. Welker has voiced Scooby since 2002, when he took over from the late Don Messick.

Yokoso Scooby-Doo Anime Series: Production, Studio, and Talent

Warner Bros. Animation produces the Yokoso Scooby-Doo! anime with animation handled by OLM. OLM is renowned for producing Pokémon, Yo-kai Watch, Berserk (1997-98), and The Apothecary Diaries, giving it a track record combining children's programming and prestige anime.

Anime industry veteran Itsuro Kawasaki, known for The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting, will direct the series, with Francisco Paredes co-producing.

WBA President Sam Register called the project a franchise evolution while acknowledging the attached talents in production. “Alongside the amazing artists at OLM, we’ll unmask a new batch of mysteries, signature hijinks, and – of course – plenty of Scooby Snacks,” Register said.

The announcement arrives as the original Scooby-Doo IP expands on multiple fronts. Netflix's live-action Scooby-Doo: Origins, which focuses on the Mystery Inc.’s origin, began filming in April. WBA itself had announced two more Scooby-Doo-related projects; however, the company has yet to clarify whether all three indicate the same project.

At the 2024 Annecy Film Festival, Warner Bros. unveiled Go-Go Mystery Machine, which has a similar premise and visual poster as that of Yokoso Scooby-Doo!. Then, in November 2025, during the Scooby-Doo x Miss Frandy makeup line launch in Brazil, the studio announced another title, Scooby-Doo! Gokko, which was then scheduled to be released in 2027.

As of now, no premiere date has been confirmed for Yokoso Scooby-Doo! Nonetheless, the upcoming anime series marks Scooby-Doo!’s most significant stylistic reinvention since its creation back in 1969 by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears. The move aligns with WBA’s increasing cross-cultural animation partnerships, evident in previous work like Suicide Squad Isekai and upcoming WEBTOON-animated titles.
