Highlights

  • The global success of Solo Leveling reshaped the anime industry, accelerating demand for manhwa anime adaptations.
  • Titles like Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, Your Letter, and Tomb Raider King highlight multi-genre expansion.
  • With platforms like Crunchyroll, webtoon adaptations are redefining anime’s traditionally manga-driven ecosystem.

Solo Leveling did not just become an anime success; it restructured the commercial logic of the entire anime industry. After A-1 Pictures' adaptation debuted on Crunchyroll in January 2024, it became the first manhwa-based anime to win Crunchyroll's Anime of the Year award.

The effect of Solo Leveling’s success is now fully visible, with the rise of manhwa adaptations. LINE Webtoon's CEO pledged at least 20 new anime series based on webtoons in 2025 alone, a target that has carried momentum into the 2026 release calendar.

The already confirmed Manhwa-based anime adaptations span romantic drama, dark superhero thriller, regression fantasy, martial arts, and K-pop IP, highlighting multi-genre offerings. Streaming platforms like Crunchyroll, TVLing, and Aniplus have secured distribution rights based on regions, while Japanese-South Korean co-productions signal that the adaptation pipeline now operates across borders.

Below is every confirmed manhwa that is getting an anime adaptation and is expected to release in 2026, ordered chronologically.

1. Dark Moon: The Blood Altar (Jan 10 - March 28, 2026)

Serialized on Naver Webtoon (2022-2023), Dark Moon: The Blood Altar is a HYBE-produced manhwa that was the commercial centrepiece of Project Dark Moon. It was a multimedia initiative blending music, animation, and fiction around K-pop group ENHYPEN.

The Dark Moon anime was produced by Studio TROYCA, with Crunchyroll streaming it globally (Jan 10 - Mar 28, 2026). ENHYPEN performed all three theme songs, making it the clearest example yet of K-pop IP driving anime commercial strategy.

2. Terror Man (Jan 29, 2026)

South Korean streaming platform TVING exclusively released Terror Man, based on YLAB's interconnected Super String Universe, in early 2026. The series was written by Han Dong-woo and illustrated by Ko Jin-ho, with Takahiro Umehara, known for Pluto, overseeing the character design.

The story follows Min Jungwoo, a teenager who can sense impending disasters and uses that ability as an unconventional terrorist to prevent tragedies. Nearly three years in production, the adaptation was animated by DR Movie, whose credits include Avatar: The Last Airbender and Castlevania. As of April 2026, no international streaming has been confirmed.

3. The Beginning After the End Season 2 (April 1, 2026)

The Beginning After the End anime, based on TurtleMe's web novel, debuted with mixed reviews and backlashes in 2025. Despite being a commercial and critical setback, Studio A-Cat renewed it for a second season, continuing the narrative with Arthur Leywin’s journey in a world of magic.

Reportedly, a petition from 40K fans demanded the adaptation be remade due to animation quality concerns. Whether the studio has addressed Season 1's production criticism is the central question heading into The Beginning After the End season 2 run, that started from April 1.

4. Tomb Raider King (July 2026)

The Tomb Raider King anime adaptation was announced at Anime Expo 2024, with production by Studio EEK and director Seung Wook Woo. Jooheon Seo, a betrayed tomb raider who was teleported 15 years back, tries to find every relic in the world to gain power.

Fuji TV and Kansai TV will carry the July 2026 Japanese broadcast, with Aniplus handling South Korean distribution. A Japanese dub has been confirmed, and international streaming is expected to follow. The opening theme, SHOW DOWN, is performed by South Korean girl group QWER.

5. A Returner's Magic Should Be Special Season 2 (TBA 2026)

Written by Usonan and serialized on KakaoPage from September 2016 to August 2019, A Returner's Magic Should Be Special manhwa adaptation debuted in May 2018. Season 1 aired from October to December 2023, following Desir Herrman’s journey to train a new generation of heroes to change a grim future.

In October 2025, A Returner's Magic Should Be Special’s second season was confirmed at New York Comic Con with a new trailer and 2026 premiere window. As per the report, while Crunchyroll will continue global distribution, a specific release day has not been announced.

6. Gosu (Expected 2026)

Written by Giun Ryu and illustrated by Mun Jeong-Hoo, Gosu is one of the most highly anticipated manhwa-based anime adaptations that is widely expected to have a 2026 release date. On Naver Wentoon, Gosu has accumulated 1.4B views during its serialization from 2015 to 2023.

Toei Animation and Studio N announced the adaptation in April 2023, with Studio Mir confirming involvement via X in September 2024, reflecting that the anime could be in production for almost three years.

Gosu follows the journey of Gang Yong, who tries to navigate a world that has moved ahead in his decade-long absence. A late 2026 debut is speculated but not confirmed by any of the production studios, as of April 2026.

7. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Expected 2026)

Serialized in 2018 on Naver Webtoon, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint anime adaptation was announced at Anime Expo 2024. The manhwa is widely considered the ‘True King of Manhwa,’ often rivaling Solo Leveling in popularity. It follows the life of Kim Dokja through his journey in the world of the novel he has been reading for 13 years.

Japanese studio Aniplex is backing the project, with Crunchyroll reported as a streaming partner. During the announcement, a visual teaser was also released, hinting at an active production cycle. Even though a confirmed release date is yet to be announced, multiple media reports are suggesting a late 2026 release.

8. True Beauty Season 2 (Expected 2026)

The True Beauty anime's first season, produced by Studio N and Cocktail Media, aired 13 episodes from September to October 2024 on Crunchyroll. Season 2 was announced Jan 4, 2025, via the anime's official channels, with Crunchyroll confirming it will stream the new season.

True Beauty began serialization in 2018 on Naver Webtoon and has become a multimedia franchise spanning anime, manhwa, and live-action adaptation. The narrative follows Jugyeong, who tries to navigate her high school life through bullying and new turns. Despite no production update, premiere date, or episode count having been announced, True Beauty season 2 is anticipated for a 2026 release.

9. Your Letter (North America, 2026)

Your Letter anime feature adapts the story of Sori, a middle school student who discovers a mysterious letter in her new desk and follows a series of clues that unfold into an emotionally layered narrative about friendship and belonging. Even though the film premiered in South Korea in October 2025, it is being released in North American theatres in 2026.

The Your Letter movie bears visual similarity to Studio Ghibli's naturalistic aesthetic. It is the most distinct entry on this list precisely because it represents manhwa's reach into animated film production, rather than episodic streaming content.

The nine mentioned titles are evidence that anime, as a medium, has expanded its source material definition. Other anticipated titles, such as The Boxer and Eleceed, are also in production, with no confirmed release dates. For decades, the pipeline ran almost exclusively from Japanese manga to Japanese studios. The shift now underway is structural, with Japanese studios increasingly vying for international co-production.
