Highlights

- It includes the Undead Nightmare expansion but requires an internet connection.

Netflix has officially added Rockstar Games’ open-world masterpiece, Red Dead Redemption, to its mobile gaming library as of December 2, 2025. This release marks a significant milestone for the streaming giant, bringing the full console experience to iOS and Android devices for the first time. While the game is listed for purchase on app stores for $39.99, it is available free to all active Netflix subscribers. This addition boosts the service's library to over 120 exclusive mobile games, all offered without ads or in-app purchases.
However, players should be aware of a few significant caveats before jumping into the Wild West. The mobile version requires an active internet connection to play at all times, meaning there is no offline mode available for commuters or travelers without a signal. Additionally, the multiplayer mode has been excluded from this launch.
The game itself offers the complete single-player package, originally released in 2010, where players control former outlaw John Marston in 1911 as he hunts down his old gang to save his kidnapped family. This release also includes the "Undead Nightmare" expansion, a beloved standalone campaign where Marston faces a sudden zombie outbreak.
Mobile System Requirements to play Red Dead Redemption
From a technical standpoint, the port is designed to be a premium experience rather than a scaled-down adaptation. Developed in collaboration with Rockstar Games, it targets a smooth 60 frames per second on high-end devices and supports modern visual enhancements like HDR and upscaling. To run the game effectively, Apple users will need a device with the A13 Bionic chip or newer running iOS 18.0 or later.
Android users would require a device running on Android 14.0 or higher, equipped with at least 4GB of RAM and a chipset equivalent to the Snapdragon 888 or better. The initial download is approximately 3GB, though users should reserve extra space for subsequent assets. For controls, the game features customizable touch-screen mechanics but fully supports compatible gamepads for those seeking a traditional console feel.
This launch is a major strategic move for Netflix’s gaming division, aiming to shift its reputation from a casual add-on to a serious platform for core gamers. After facing initial challenges with low engagement, the company’s investment began to pay off in 2024, with estimates showing a 180% year-over-year increase in game downloads.
GTA: San Andreas Leaving Soon
This release follows the addition of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy two years ago, though subscribers should note that GTA: San Andreas will be leaving the Netflix catalog on December 12.
Regarded as one of the best games in the series, San Andreas takes players to the early 90s, following Carl "CJ" Johnson as he returns home to Los Santos to save his family and take control of the streets. While it is departing the subscription service, the game remains available for individual purchase on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as on PC and major consoles.
Beyond mobile, Netflix also recently introduced games on smart TVs in October, allowing users to play party titles like Boggle Party, LEGO Party, and Pictionary using their phones as controllers.
With Red Dead Redemption now easily accessible, it could generate renewed interest in the franchise amidst fan speculation about future Rockstar projects.
