British developer TT Games has confirmed that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will not support online co-op, limiting multiplayer to two-player local couch play only. The open-world action-adventure title launches May 29, 2026, with preorders now live.
The confirmation comes from the game’s official support FAQ. “Fans of all generations will be able to enjoy the game solo or team up with a friend or family member through two-player local couch cooperative gameplay only,” the FAQ states, adding that “online co-op will not be available.” As with previous TT Games releases, online multiplayer is entirely absent.
The FAQ also confirms that the game will not include real-money microtransactions. As a result, players will not need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core subscription for local co-op, and the game can be played without an online connection.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Characters, Scope, and PC Specs
Marketed with the tagline “Build the Legacy,” the game is described as a brand-new open-world action-adventure following Bruce Wayne’s journey to become Gotham’s protector, drawing inspiration from decades of Batman films, television, comics, and games, alongside TT Games’ LEGO-style humor.
Confirmed playable characters:
- Batman
- Jim Gordon
- Catwoman
- Talia al Ghul
- Robin
- Nightwing
- Batgirl
Each character has unique skills, progression trees, and gadgets, including Robin’s line launcher, Nightwing’s battle staff, Batgirl’s hackarang, Jim Gordon’s foam sprayer, and Catwoman’s whip.
Beyond co-op limitations, the game has sparked criticism due to its unusually high recommended PC specifications. Current listings call for a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or 11, an AMD Zen 3 or Intel 12th-generation CPU, 32 GB of RAM, a ray-tracing-capable GPU such as an RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6800-class card, NVMe SSD storage, and up to 100 GB of space for 1440p gameplay at 60 FPS.
Reddit users compared the requirements to titles like Doom: The Dark Ages and questioned accessibility. Most of the users asked why a LEGO game with a block-style visual presentation similar to games like Minecraft or Roblox would require such high hardware specifications when the genre typically runs on far lower system requirements.
