Highlights

  • Riot Games has announced K.O. Coliseum Tactician's Crown tournament for Teamfight Tactics on Nov 14–16 with a prize pool of $470,000.
  • The event will host 40 elite TFT players from TFT pro suit and the Americas, EMEA, APAC, and China.
  • The event follows a Swiss-style setup, culminating in a “checkmate format” finale

Riot Games announced plans for a three-day Teamfight Tactics tournament next month that will award nearly half a million dollars to competitors from four global regions.

The K.O. Coliseum Tactician's Crown, scheduled for Nov. 14-16, will feature 40 players vying for a $470,000 prize pool, with the winner taking home $150,000. The Los Angeles-based game developer said the event represents its latest effort to elevate the competitive profile of TFT, the auto-battler game mode that has become one of its most popular offerings since launching in 2019.

The tournament will draw participants from the TFT professional circuit and four regional competitions: the Americas, Europe-Middle East-Africa, Asia-Pacific and China. Chinese players will make up the largest contingent with eight spots, while 12 slots are reserved for the professional circuit.

Tournament Format and Schedule Breakdown

Competitors will face off in a Swiss-style format over the first two days, accumulating points across multiple rounds. The opening day will see players divided into five lobbies for six games each, with lobbies reshuffled after each match. Thirty-two players will advance to the second day based on cumulative scoring, which awards eight points for first place down to one point for eighth.

Day two will narrow the field to four finalists, who will compete in what Riot calls a "checkmate format" finale on Nov. 16. The first player to reach 20 points while winning a match will claim the championship.

The prize distribution tapers sharply after the top three finishers, with second place earning $50,000 and third taking $25,000. Even the 40th-place finisher will receive $2,000.

The substantial prize pool reflects Riot's ambitions for TFT in the competitive gaming market, particularly in fast-growing regions like Asia-Pacific and China, where strategic esports continue to attract investment and viewership.
