Highlights

  • The CyberMP mod for Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer completed its most stable closed beta with improved sync and fewer crashes.
  • The fan-made multiplayer supports multiple players with PvP, racing, exploration, and social tools across Cyberpunk 2077.
  • With testing progressing smoothly, 2026 is widely anticipated as the likely window for a broader public beta launch for CyberMP.

Cyberpunk 2077’s long-anticipated CyberMP multiplayer modification has reached a key development milestone with its most stable closed beta test yet. According to the project's developers, CyberMP’s sixth closed beta test saw significant improvements in player and vehicle synchronization, as well as platform stability.

The new update marks a significant development for the Cyberpunk franchise’s multiplayer version, which was in jeopardy after CD Projekt Red shelved its own multiplayer plans early in the game’s lifecycle. The new mod is reported to feature multiplayer deathmatches and races to players, rather than online co-op missions.

Cyberpunk Multiplayer's Gameplay Features and Mod Development

CyberMP’s closed testing phases began in Summer 2024, with YouTubers like JuiceHead. The project is being spearheaded by a team of 10 developers. CD Projekt Red was Cyberpunk 2077s original developer.

According to their recent Discord post, the current multiplayer test suite includes support for multiple players simultaneously in Night City. It allows collective exploration, PvP combat, racing, and social interaction in an otherwise single-player world. It also features a new interface overlay that facilitates chatting and teleportation in the gameplay.

After the current test, synchronization of players and vehicles across networked sessions has improved, which essentially minimized desync and crashes. Developers reported that only a small number of clients crashed during the test, and some were not related to the CyberMP client itself. The minor bugs that were found during the test have already been fixed, and the team noted that they intend to “continue working on optimization.”

At the time of writing, no official release date was announced by the team; however, publishers like Screenrant anticipate it could be launched in 2026 due to the latest progress report.

CyberMP’s progress underscores the lasting popularity and cultural footprint of the Cyberpunk franchise. Despite Cyberpunk 2077’s troubled launch, the IP rebounded to become one of CD Projekt’s biggest commercial successes, sustained by expansions like Phantom Liberty, strong ongoing sales, and cross-media releases including the acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime adaptation.
