Ghost in the Shell Miniatures Hit Tabletop for First Time
Mantic Games' BackerKit campaign pairs a licensed Section 9 tabletop RPG with resin miniatures and new Shirow Masamune artwork.
Mantic Games has brought Ghost in the Shell into tabletop gaming with the launch of its first officially licensed tabletop role-playing game campaign. The campaign went live on BackerKit on July 28 and runs till Aug 13, 2026, giving backers roughly two and a half weeks to secure pledges.
The line lets players build cyber-enhanced agents and take on Public Security Section 9 missions rooted in Masamune Shirow’s original manga. Mantic is also releasing resin miniatures of six Section 9 characters, along with their STL files for 3D printing.
The campaign also combines rewards for backers including physical books, dice, miniatures, and a new art print commissioned specifically for the campaign. According to Bell of Lost Souls, the project passed its funding goal quickly and had drawn more than 2,400 backers as of early August, with delivery targeted for May 2027.
Ghost in the Shell: Tabletop Roleplaying Game details
The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop Roleplaying Game (TTRPG) is designed by Alessio Cavatore, known for Warhammer and Kings of War, and TTRPG writer Zak Barouh. Mantic worked with Kodansha, the rights holder of Shirow’s manga.
Players can customize agents with cybernetic upgrades, weapons, skills and traits while undertaking narrative-driven missions, including the introductory campaign Lost Patriot, as per the campaign. Lost Patriot is “an 8-part adventure which is intended for a group.”
What Rewards Can the Ghost in the Shell TTRPG Backers Get?
Every Ghost in the Shell TTRPG backer receives three bonus missions at no added cost. They also receive the digital rulebook PDF in September, months before retail availability. Backers will also get first access to every new addition during the campaign.
The Ghost in the Shell TTRPG campaign offers multiple pledge options, beginning with a £1 reservation, which secures exclusive campaign bonuses, while higher physical pledge tiers include the premium hardcover rulebook, accessories and miniature packs. The crowdfunding campaign is running for a limited time, after which the products can be expected to move towards retail release.
Additionally, to accompany the campaign, Shirow has produced an all-new illustration exclusively for the project. The artwork featuring Major Kusanagi and Batou is available through the Collector's Bundle, as a limited offering.
The campaign's timing follows the July 7 premiere of a new The Ghost in the Shell television anime from Science SARU, streaming on Prime Video. Nonetheless, the tabletop RPG extends one of anime’s most influential cyberpunk properties beyond animation and manga into the rapidly growing tabletop gaming market.
