K-pop’s 2026 album landscape has long been shaped by veteran acts returning with career-defining projects. However, this year, apart from such acts, the soloists in the industry have expanded their reach, with newer artists challenging the boundaries of idol music. 

From BTS’ record-setting global comeback with ARIRANG and AKMU’s domestically dominant FLOWERING to fresh releases from acts like Balming Tiger and PLAVE, this year’s strongest albums showcase a wider shift toward artistic autonomy, genre diversification, and evolving fan consumption patterns. 

The ranking considers Billboard and independent chart data, coupled with critical reception, musical ambition, industry impact, and other commercial milestones, to highlight the releases that have defined K-pop in 2026 so far. 

Top 25 K-pop Albums of the Year 2026

25. ITZY — Motto

ITZY’s 12th mini album, Motto, was released on May 18, 2026, via JYP Entertainment and Republic Records. Marking the group’s seventh-anniversary comeback as a full five-member act, the eight-track project included three group songs, like the title track Motto, Glitch, and You And I, alongside five solo tracks from Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna.

The album expands beyond ITZY’s usual high-energy pop style, providing each member some area to explore their individual musical directions through diverse genres such as trap-inspired pop, sentimental balladry, swing influences, and city-pop textures. Songs like Yeji’s Pocket, Lia’s Asylum, Chaeryeong’s Undefined, and Yuna’s Tangerine showcase the members’ unique approaches while depicting the album’s wider sound range.

Post their Tunnel Vision era, Motto depicts a shift towards a more individual-driven format while maintaining the group’s performance-focused identity. The album also logged strong physical sales, reportedly topping Hanteo’s daily album chart during release week. As reported by Hanteo News, the album surpassed 280,000 copies during its initial tracking period.

24. LNGSHOT — SHOT CALLERS

Released on January 13, 2026, via MORE VISION, LNGSHOT’s debut EP SHOT CALLERS introduced Jay Park’s first boy group. The EP was a five-track project blending hip-hop, R&B, and pop influences. Led by the title track Moonwalkin’, the SHOT CALLERS placed the rookie act around a sound that's atypical of usual idol productions. 

Moonwalkin’ includes a guitar riff with a sleek pop-trap rhythm, while another song from the album titled FaceTime “reworks old-school R&B through stacked harmonies and flamboyant ad-libs,” according to Billboard.

LNGSHOT’s debut EP logged 48,016 first-week sales on the Hanteo Chart, including 15,837 copies on its release day. SHOT CALLERS also reportedly topped the 130,000-copy mark in cumulative Korean physical sales, as per sales tracking based on Circle Chart data.

23. IRENE — Biggest Fan

Released on March 30, 2026 via SM Entertainment, Red Velvet member Irene expanded her solo identity with a 10-track project named Biggest Fan. This is Irene’s first full-length solo album after she debuted her solo EP Like A Flower in 2024. The album reportedly recorded 199,883 first-day sales on the Hanteo Chart, becoming one of the best solo female idol album releases of 2026. It was also ranked No. 23 on Billboard’s The 25 Best K-Pop Albums of 2026 (So Far) list.

22. ALL(H)OURS — NO DOUBT

ALL(H)OURS’ NO DOUBT came to public view on March 16, 2026, with six tracks built around dark trap-rock, pop-rock, hip-hop R&B, and emotional ballad elements. Released via EDEN Entertainment/Kakao Entertainment) ALL(H)OURS’ fifth mini album features two member-unit tracks, including 7 o’clock and Cause I’m Insane, alongside the witch house-influenced title track DEAD MAN WALKING

The album reportedly recorded 20,115 first-day sales on Hanteo, topping their earlier milestone achieved through Smoke Point, which sold 16,300 copies. As their first album release of 2026, the release marked the group’s highest first-day sales performance at the time. Additionally, NO DOUBT peaked at No. 4 on the Korean Circle Album Chart. And by March 17, 2026, the album had attained 42,261 copies in cumulative sales, after adding 22,146 copies on its second day.

21. Billlie — the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two

Released on May 6, 2026 via Mystic Story, Billlie’s first full-length album, the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two extends the band's experimental identity through bass house, garage, jazz, Y2K-inspired pop, and electronic influences. The 12-track project includes WORK as a promoted track alongside the title song ZAP. As per Hanteo Chart data, the album reportedly sold a little over 48,000 copies in its first week. Notably, reports also say that the album logged 21,883 monthly sales on Circle Chart in May 2026. The release fortified Billlie’s position as a cult-favorite act with a niche physical-buying fanbase.

20. aespa — LEMONADE

Launched on May 29, 2026, through SM Entertainment and Kakao Entertainment, aespa’s second full-length album LEMONADE expands the group’s growing catalog with collaborations featuring G-DRAGON, Ty Dolla $ign, and Becky G. With a sharper combination of aggressive electronic, rock, hyperpop, and R&B influences, the group is pushing for a futuristic pop identity. 

aespa’s album debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200, marking the group's third top-10 entry on the chart. Additionally, it also reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. While in South Korea, LEMONADE recorded 842,534 copies sold on Hanteo on its first day, further solidifying their commercial momentum and later crossing 1M copies in domestic sales.

19. I.O.I — I.O.I: LOOP

Popular girl group I.O.I marked their 10th anniversary with I.O.I: LOOP, a six-track reunion mini album released on May 19, 2026, via Swing Entertainment, Stone Music Entertainment, and KT Genie Music. With nine of the original 11 members coming back, the project marks the group’s first new music release since their 2017 disbandment era.

The album explored emotional reflection instead of just recreating their earlier high-energy image. Led by the sentimental synth-pop title track Suddenly, which included songwriting participation from Jeon Somi, the EP emphasized the members’ growth trajectory while celebrating how far they have come. 

Although I.O.I: LOOP did not verifiably enter any Billboard charts, the song Suddenly achieved immense domestic momentum. It notably reached No. 1 on Melon TOP100, while earning multiple music-show trophies, including I.O.I’s first-ever win on Show! Music Core.

18. PLAVE — Caligo Pt.2

PLAVE ended the Caligo storyline with its fourth mini album Caligo Pt.2, which was released on April 13, 2026, via VLAST. The project grew the virtual group’s narrative universe while also broadening their musical range, oscillating from rock-driven tracks to a cappella, R&B hip-hop, ballad, and new jack swing influences. 

Commercially, the album marked a historic breakthrough for the virtual K-pop act. It notably became PLAVE’s first release to enter the Billboard 200, securing the No. 145 position on the chart dated May 2, 2026. It also reached No. 2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and No. 7 on Top Album Sales, making PLAVE the first virtual K-pop group to achieve such U.S. album-chart milestones. 

On the domestic market, Caligo Pt.2 recorded staggering first-week sales. The album reportedly sold 1,255,801 copies on Hanteo, making the album PLAVE’s third million-selling release.

17. XngHan&Xoul — Glow

Former RIIZE member Seunghan returned under the fresh identity of XngHan&Xoul, releasing his first mini album Glow on April 27, 2026, through SM Entertainment. The five-track project marked his return about nine months after Waste No Time was released (July 31, 2025). XngHan&Xoul’s latest effort, Glow, leans into brighter dance-oriented production, which also includes house and disco influences while also embedding emotional themes, as seen in his earlier work.

On a commercial note, Glow attained a new sales milestone on the Hanteo Chart, selling 111,807 copies in its first week (April 27–May 3, 2026). This figure bolstered him past his previous first-week record set by Waste No Time, which sold 97,408 copies. By crossing the 100,000-copy mark during its initial sales period, Glow became XngHan&Xoul’s first release to do so.

As for Waste No Time, its title track reached No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in 12 regions. These regions include: Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Thailand, Poland, Chile, Peru, Oman, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Indonesia, and Paraguay.

16. ATEEZ — GOLDEN HOUR: Part.4

ATEEZ’s GOLDEN HOUR: Part.4 was released on February 6, 2026, through KQ Entertainment, RCA Records, and Legacy Recordings. The five-track EP extended the group’s cinematic approach while coupling their aggressive electronic and trap-driven production with more thoughtful moments targeting longtime fans. 

ATEEZ’s album marked a new career peak in the United States. Notably, GOLDEN HOUR: Part.4 debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped Billboard’s Top Album Sales and World Albums charts. The album earned nearly 200,000 equivalent album units in its initial tracking week, including about 5,000 streaming equivalent units and approximately 195,000 units in U.S. sales. Additionally, in South Korea, the album moved 1,544,168 copies in its first week on the Hanteo Chart, becoming another million-seller for the group.

15. HEART OF WOMAN — Heart Byte: LEGACY

HEART OF WOMAN (H.O.W.), on May 28, 2026, released Heart Byte: LEGACY, drawing from 1990s and early-2000s R&B traditions via new jack swing rhythms, Spanish-guitar elements, and harmony-focused arrangements. Marking the first girl-group release from Blue Brown Records, the release revolves around five members which was developed through the reality project Teach Me How. Many critics highlighted the group’s similarity to acts such as Danity Kane and early Destiny’s Child. 

Heart Byte: LEGACY was recently recognized amongst Billboard’s staff-selected standout K-pop releases of 2026 so far. Domestically, the title track Lost in Proof depicted modest digital activity, reaching a reported peak of around No. 965 on the Melon Daily Chart, with a highest recorded daily user count of about 6,977 listeners. 

14. SHOWNU X HYUNGWON of MONSTA X — LOVE ME

SHOWNU X HYUNGWON, MONSTA X’s first official sub-unit, marked a comeback with their second EP LOVE ME on May 21, 2026, via Starship Entertainment. The seven-track release explores different shades of love in a restrained and emotional way, with the duo highlighting softer vocals, atmospheric production, and individual strengths with the help of solo tracks. It follows their 2023 debut EP THE UNSEEN, which defined the unit’s identity with a more refined performance-driven sound.

LOVE ME entered the Circle Album Chart, ranking No. 10 on the 2026 Week 21 weekly album chart with reported sales of 53,908 copies in that time frame. Circle-based sales tracking later listed the EP with nearly 67,468 copies in May 2026. The duo’s debut EP THE UNSEEN previously peaked at No. 6 on the Circle Album Chart and topped 100,000 copies in initial sales on Hanteo, setting the benchmark for the unit’s commercial performance.

13. Xdinary Heroes — DEAD AND

Released on April 17, 2026 via Studio J and JYP Entertainment, Xdinary Heroes' eighth mini album DEAD AND grows the band's signature rock sound with influences spanning from punk and alternative rock to hybrid metal and emotional balladry. 

As a self-producing act, all six members participated in the album's songwriting and composition alongside longtime JYP collaborators like collapsedone, ESUM, VERSACHOI, Lee Hae Sol, and others. Commercially, the release became the band's strongest-selling album to date, logging about 72,461 first-day sales and 151,085 first-week copies on Hanteo, setting new records for both metrics.

12. KiiiKiii — Delulu Pack

Released on January 26, 2026 via Starship Entertainment, KiiiKiii's second EP Delulu Pack channels internet-native "delulu" culture into a pompous mix of UK garage, disco, hip-hop, and Y2K-inspired production, combining retro sounds distinctly with Gen-Z perspective. 

Its lead single 404 (New Era) became the group's breakthrough, while spending eight consecutive weeks on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Notably, it also reached No. 1 on Melon and Circle's Digital and Streaming Charts in South Korea.

11. idntt — <yesweare>

Released on January 5–6, 2026 through Modhaus, <yesweare> introduced idntt's second eight-member unit as part of the agency's long-term rollout to launch a 24-member boy group across three sequential units. The project combined crunk&B, industrial dance, and gospel-tinged hip-hop while growing the group's interactive, fan-driven concept. Reportedly, Billboard Korea recognized idntt as its K-Pop Rookie of the Month for January 2026, with <yesweare> accumulating over 404,000 copies on Circle Chart's First Half 2026 album tally. 

Top 10 K-pop Albums of the Year 2026

10. TAEYONG — WYLD

WYLD, Taeyong’s first full-length solo album, was released on May 18, 2026, via SM Entertainment. Self-produced entirely, the 10-track venture marks his most personal project to date, reflecting his thoughts as NCT’s leader. The title track, which is also named WYLD features punchy rap and powerful vocals over a hip-hop tone, while the remainder of the album uses adventurous electronic sounds and experimental production. 

The album opened strong, debuting at No. 1 on the Circle Retail Album Chart while its title track topped the Bugs Real-Time Chart. Globally, WYLD reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Albums chart in 8 regions, including Chile, Poland, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. It also entered the Top 10 in 15 other markets like Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the UAE, and Türkiye. Additionally, all 10 tracks swept Japan's AWA Real-Time Rising Chart, highlighting its broad global reception.

9. BTS — ARIRANG

BTS returned on March 20, 2026, with ARIRANG, their first full-length group album since the members finished their military service in the last 4 years. Produced under the direction of Bang Si-hyuk, the album draws heavily from Korean identity and the symbolism of the traditional folk song Arirang. It paired this traditional heritage with global pop, along with a huge set of collaborators like Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz), Ryan Tedder, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala), Pdogg, and several other international songwriters and producers. 

ARIRANG debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 641,000 equivalent album units, including 532,000 pure album sales, making it the biggest week for an album by a group ever since Billboard started using its equivalent-units methodology in December 2014. It also became BTS' seventh No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and later made history as the first album by a K-pop act to remain at No. 1 for three consecutive weeks. At the same time, lead single SWIM debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming BTS' seventh career Hot 100 chart-topper.

8. Yves — NAIL

Released on April 17, 2026 via Paix Per Mil, NAIL finds former LOONA member Yves growing her alternative pop sound with elements of alternative R&B, house, UK bass and hyperpop. The five-track EP features guest appearances from Lolo Zouaï on the title track and Lexie Liu on Break it. Notably, Yves received songwriting credits across the entire project, making it her most hands-on creative work to date. Break it. also reportedly debuted at No. 14 on the Circle Album Chart (Week 16 of 2026).

7. WOODZ — Archive. 1

On March 4, 2026, WOODZ released Archive. 1 via EDAM Entertainment/Kakao Entertainment, marking his first full-length album. Spanning 17 tracks, each exploring alternative rock, pop punk, blues rock, and alternative R&B, the album is also famous for being his most guitar-driven work to date. Archive. 1 notably includes many English-language songs as well, like Bloodline and Downtown

The album reportedly sold 66,829 copies in its first week on Hanteo and entered at No. 3 on the Circle Album Chart with 60,377 copies, as recorded on the monthly chart. Archive. 1 is WOODZ’s first all-in effort after his 2023 venture OO-LI, which includes his popular track Drowning. Notably, the song resurfaced on Korean charts during his military service after his live-performance clips went viral. It became one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2025–26, significantly boosting anticipation for Archive. 1.

6. XLOV — I, God

Released independently on May 27, 2026, I, God is XLOV's second mini-album, which combined house, hyperpop, tech house, and other electronic styles through a highly ambitious conceptual architecture. I, God, sold more than 110,000 copies within its first two days, becoming the group's first release to surpass the 100,000 sales mark. In its initial tracking period, the EP sold 224,291 copies, nearly tripling XLOV's previous first-week sales record of 85,155 for UXLXVE.

5. can't be blue — Prussian Blue

On January 19, 2026, can't be blue released Prussian Blue, a five-track EP. The album explores the emotional aftermath of a failed relationship via alternative rock, soft rock, and jazz-rock, featuring XngHan on the opening track Black Tesla. The track features XngHan, who also received composition and lyric credits alongside producer Dohun. The EP ends with Waiting, and other tracks like Is you, dim, and Should be you

Notably, Should be you emerged as the EP's standout track on Spotify, crossing 1.7M streams. As per Top Charts, the EP attained No. 11 on the Netherlands' iTunes chart and No. 4 on South Korea's Apple Music chart during its release week.

4. SHINee — Atmos

SHINee's Atmos was released on June 1, 2026, through SM Entertainment, to mark the group's 18th anniversary. The album's songs are a combination of bright, house-driven pop and moodier synth ballads. The mini album debuted at No. 1 on Japan's Oricon Weekly Digital Album Ranking (June 1–7 tracking week) with 2,454 downloads. Additionally, it reached No. 2 on Recochoku's Daily Album Chart and AWA's Realtime Rising Chart in Japan. It simultaneously topped iTunes Top Albums in at least 16 countries, while selling 119,570 copies in its first week on Hanteo.

3. NMIXX — Heavy Serenade

On May 11, 2026, JYP Entertainment/Republic Records released NMIXX’s Heavy Serenade, after the commercial success of Blue Valentine. The six-track EP is led by the title track of the same name; it was preceded by a pre-release single, Crescendo.

The EP reportedly debuted atop the Circle Weekly Album Chart with 279,657 copies during the opening May 10–16, 2026 tracking week, while the title song simultaneously entered at No. 1 on the Circle Weekly Download Chart. The EP also logged 345,806 first-week sales on Hanteo (May 11–17), topping the Hanteo Weekly Album Chart for the second week of May 2026.

2. Balming Tiger — Gongbu

Built around the fictional "Gongbu Korea" research institute, Gongbu combines alternative pop, folk, funk, rock, and hip-hop into an experimental concept album that pushes beyond traditional K-pop songwriting. 

Gongbu, which was self-released on May 19, 2026, was included in NPR Music’s The Albums and Songs of 2026 We Love So Far list. On the other hand, Clash Magazine awarded it 9/10, while The Upcoming reportedly gave it a 5/5 rating. The scores by these publications are cited by multiple South Korean media outlets, who also reported a physical edition release that is packaged as a "Gongbu Korea" employee welcome kit. Verified sales or major commercial chart figures are yet to be made public for this release.

1. AKMU — FLOWERING

AKMU, formerly known as Akdong Musician, is a South Korean sibling duo consisting of two members, Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun. The duo gained national attention after winning 'K-pop Star 2.' They later debuted under YG Entertainment in 2014 with their album Play, when artists like BIGBANG, 2NE1 and Lee Hi were at their commercial peak.

AKMU’s fourth full-length album FLOWERING showcased the duo’s signature emotional songwriting through folk-inspired pop and organic arrangements. The album became one of the best domestic digital performers of 2026, with its success driven mainly by streaming and chart performance rather than physical sales.

The lead single of the album Joy, Sorrow, A Beautiful Heart reportedly led Circle Chart Week 15 (April 5–11, 2026), topping the Digital, Download, BGM, and V Coloring charts to earn AKMU four chart crowns. During April, the song added two more wins on the Bell and Ringback Tone charts, with Paradise of Rumors topping the Streaming Chart, bringing AKMU to a total of six Circle Chart category wins.

AKMU repeated the same six-crown achievement on Circle Chart Week 18, validating their strong domestic digital presence. By Week 19 (May 3–9, 2026), Paradise of Rumors had taken over six Circle categories yet again, logging a Digital Chart Circle Score of 18,827,822.
