Highlights

  • Epic Games rolled out the Fortnite-28 Years Later crossover on Jan 13, validating Fortnite leak reports.
  • Under the collaboration, the “Years of Rage Bundle” offers Bio Hazard back bling and Vertebasher pickaxe.
  • The crossover aligns with the theatrical launch of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

Epic Games, Inc. has launched a new 28 Years Later film franchise crossover in Fortnite chapter 7, season 1, on Jan 13, 2026, confirming the circulated leaks about the collaboration. The collaboration went live in the Item Shop on the date claimed by leakers, such as AdiraFNInfo and Hypex.

According to Epic’s official Item Shop listing, the drop includes the Years of Rage Bundle, featuring themed cosmetic items such as a pickaxe and back bling inspired by the franchise’s post-apocalyptic imagery. The “Bio Hazard” back bling is priced at 500 V-Bucks (Fortnite’s in-game currency), while the Vertebasher pickaxe, which can be used in Battle Royale mode, costs 800 V-Bucks.

The entire Bundle is priced at 1000 V-Bucks; however, the bundle does not have playable character skins, limited-time modes, new emotes, or narrative events, elements that typically define Fortnite’s marquee collaborations. According to Fortnite’s Item Shop details, the bundle will be available till 5: 30 am IST on Jan 23, 2026, following the limited-time model generally observed by Epic.

This sets the 28 Years Later crossover apart from Fortnite’s large-scale partnerships with franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, or Dragon Ball, which often include skins, quests, and in-game events.

Interestingly, the Item Shop listings also correlate with what well-known leaker AdiraFNInfo shared on Jan 12, 2026. Fortnite’s live-service ecosystem is not unfamiliar with leaked news, but the increased amount of verified leaks underscores how Fortnite’s crossover pipeline has become predictable and easy to datamine.

Fortnite Crossover Timing Aligns With 28 Years Later Theatrical Rollout

The collaboration’s timing is close to the release window of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the long-anticipated continuation of Danny Boyle’s zombie franchise. The new film, produced by Sony Pictures, is the fourth installment in the franchise and will hit theatres on Jan 16, 2026, just three days after this Fortnite x 28 Years Later collaboration.

The new movie features director Nia DaCosta, writer Alex Garland, and Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy. Strategically, the Fortnite drop functions as a high-engagement marketing strategy, with Fortnite’s 650M global player base.

The timing of Fortnite x 28 Years Later collab offers the upcoming film a high-visibility platform prior to its opening-week. The absence of a large in-game event also hints that the collaboration is aimed at early traction and 28 Days Later franchise awareness before it comes to the cinemas.

The 28 Days Later crossover reinforces Fortnite’s expanding role as a cross-industry marketing hub rather than a purely event-driven live-service platform. In recent years, Epic has increasingly diversified its collaborations, ranging from blockbuster films to niche TV properties and legacy horror franchises, including Alien, Resident Evil, and The Walking Dead.
