Gamescom Asia x Thailand to Focus on Creating B2B Opportunities
Gamescom Asia shifts from Singapore to Bangkok, aiming for global exchange while tackling regional cost and inclusivity challenges.
Highlights
- Gamescom Asia merges with Thailand Game Show, marking its first move outside Singapore to expand its consumer reach and maintain regional relevance.
- Director Daria La Valle emphasizes “global success,” with the event built around collaboration between Asian and Western developers.
- Organizers stress inclusion for indie creators and awareness around costs amid the challenges of growth and global participation.
The 2025 edition of Gamescom Asia marks a significant evolution for one of Southeast Asia’s leading industry events. For the first time, the convention has relocated from Singapore to Bangkok, merging with the long-running Thailand Game Show in an effort to create a stronger, more integrated space for both B2B and B2C engagement. The new format, according to Koelnmesse project director Daria La Valle, is meant to bridge global and regional gaps in the games market and ensure developers from Asia are as visible on the international stage as their Western counterparts.
Gamescom Wants Indie Prominence and Industry Balance
La Valle described Southeast Asia as a fragmented but high-potential landscape, where cultural distance and market access still challenge cross-regional collaboration. The merger, she said, allows for the knowledge-sharing and networking necessary for long-term growth in both directions.
A major concern addressed by organizers is the fear of smaller studios being overshadowed when global publishers dominate floor space. Responding to recent controversies at Gamescom LATAM, La Valle reaffirmed that indie creators remain “key to our success from day one.” Over 200 independent developers are exhibiting across dedicated areas and country pavilions this year, a setup La Valle sees as central to Gamescom’s global events.
Gamescom Asia’s relocation represents more than logistical growth. It’s a strategic repositioning of the regional convention scene. While Singapore provided institutional support and international credibility in the event’s formative years, its limited consumer footprint posed challenges for expansion. By contrast, Bangkok offers a thriving local gaming community and larger event capacity.
With over 200 exhibitors this year and an expanding international presence, Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show is positioned less as a regional showcase and more as a testing ground for how global gaming events can adapt to local markets.
