Huggy Wuggy Invades Fortnite in New 'Escape Trials' Mode

The hit indie horror game and its terrifying star, Huggy Wuggy, are now available in a new cooperative mode built within Fortnite, available for all players. 

The world of Poppy Playtime has officially crossed over into Fortnite, as developer Mob Entertainment launched Poppy Playtime: Escape Trials, a brand-new experience built with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). This brings the chilling atmosphere of the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory directly into the popular game.

"Escape Trials" is a cooperative survival mode designed for squads of one to four players. Instead of a battle royale, the goal is to survive. Teams must work together to solve puzzles and complete a series of changing objectives across familiar locations like the Factory and Game Station. 

All the while, they will be hunted by the franchise's monstrous toys, including the infamous Huggy Wuggy and the unsettling Smiling Critters. The game is designed to scale its difficulty based on the number of players, ensuring a challenge for solo survivors and full squads alike. 

"Bringing Poppy Playtime into Fortnite gives us an opportunity to expand the Poppyverse in an entirely new way," said Zach Belanger, Co-founder and CEO of Mob Entertainment. "Escape Trials combines the thrill of survival gameplay with fan-favourite lore elements that both long-time players and newcomers will love."

How the Poppy Playtime 'Escape Trials' Work in Fortnite

To help them survive, players will get to use the iconic GrabPack tool from the original series, marking its debut in Fortnite. This tool allows players to use extendable hands to interact with puzzles and navigate the dangerous levels. 

The mode also features a progression system where players can earn coins to buy upgrades and skins. For fans invested in the series' story, collectible lore drops and audiotapes are hidden throughout the experience, promising to reveal new secrets about the Poppy Playtime universe.

Seth Belanger, Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Mob Entertainment, added, "We wanted to capture the suspense, the iconic environments, and the thrill of being chased by Huggy Wuggy while giving fans new ways to interact with this universe inside Fortnite."

For those who want to fully embrace the horror, a Huggy Wuggy outfit is set to stalk the Fortnite Item Shop starting October 23 at 8 PM ET. The set will also include a themed pickaxe, back bling, and an emote, allowing players to bring the blue-furred terror into their standard Battle Royale matches.
