Highlights

  • Studio Pierrot has confirmed Black Clover’s return in October 2026, ending a hiatus of more than five years.
  • The anime will resume the story from the Spade Kingdom Raid arc.
  • Crunchyroll will stream the season internationally, outside Japan.

After a more than five-year hiatus, Studio Pierrot has confirmed that Black Clover is officially set to return in October 2026. The June 15 announcement also informed that Ayataka Tanemura will direct the anime’s second season; however, an exact air date has not been announced.

Black Clover season 2 confirmation arrived with Tanemura’s special illustration featuring Asta in his Devil Union form. Tanemura accompanied the artwork with a message confirming his return and promising an even more powerful storyline.

Black Clover TV anime, based on Yuki Tabata’s manga, ran for 170 episodes following its debut in 2017. Back in March 2021, the anime entered an abrupt hiatus during a mid-battle scene in the Spade Kingdom Raid arc.

To commemorate the announcement, Pierrot has also released a 10-minute recap of Black Clover season 1, giving new audiences a chance to understand the plotline. Additionally, the first episode will premiere at Black Clover panel at Anime Expo 2026, on July 4.

What Can we Expect From Black Clover Season 2?

Black Clover season 2 resumes from manga chapter 270, where the first season left off, and covers the remaining Spade Kingdom Raid arc until approximately chapter 331. The arc follows Asta, Yuno, and the Magic Knights as they start a rescue mission into the Spade Kingdom.

In previous episodes, Dark Triad, a trio of devil-possessed royals seeking to open a portal to the underworld, abducted Captain Yami Sukehiro and William Vangeance, the two strongest Magic Knight captains in the series.

Season 2’s narrative focuses on a war involving devils, the Tree of Qliphoth ritual, and revelations about Asta’s powers and lineage. Crunchyroll’s second trailer, released in late 2025, showed Asta’s Devil Union form alongside glimpses of Yuno, Yami, and Nacht, and teased the Magic Knights stopping the Dark Triad’s Qliphoth Ritual.

Black Clover Season 2 Production Details

As mentioned, franchise veteran Tanemura, who directed the Black Clover first season episodes 153-170, and the 2023 film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, leads Black Clover season 2. Tatsuya Yoshihara, who largely helmed the anime’s first season, is reportedly involved as a key animator.

Keiichiro Ochi takes over series composition, while Itsuko Takeda joins sub designer Kumiko Tokunaga to handle character designs for the upcoming Black Clover season. With Black Clover's second season, Pierrot has shifted to a seasonal format, changing from its original weekly schedule. Pierrot also used the same for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.

Where to Stream Black Clover Season 2?

Crunchyroll will stream Black Clover season 2 exclusively outside Japan. The platform also hosts all previous Black Clover episodes and the film.

With Black Clover manga finished, season 2 will carry the franchise momentum. Having full material access, Pierrot has the chance to deliver Tabata’s ending without the pacing compromises seen during the first season run. Black Clover season 2 will drop in a packed Fall 2026 slate.

October will also bring Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc and The Apothecary Diaries season 3 on Crunchyroll, among others. All three prominent modern anime premiering in the same month will set up one of the most competitive Fall anime lineups in recent memory.
