Netmarble has delayed the global release of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, its upcoming open-world role-playing game based on Nakaba Suzuki’s popular manga, to March 2026. The company confirmed on Jan 16, 2026, that the decision to delay the game's release from the planned Jan 28, 2026, date was to ensure the game meets quality expectations before its global release for PS5, PC, iOS, and Android.
According to Project Director Do-Hyung Koo, the additional time is intended to address feedback and improve overall stability and gameplay depth. They determined that additional development time is necessary to deliver the level of completeness players expect, Koo implied in a statement published by Netmarble, adding that the team chose quality over schedule after reviewing internal and external feedback.
The feedback follows a Closed Beta Test (CBT) of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, which started in early November 2025. According to Koo, the received feedback was “far more extensive and in-depth than our development team had anticipated,” which led to the team’s decision to delay.
Origin was previously positioned as one of Netmarble’s most ambitious console-grade projects to date, making the delay notable as the company expands beyond its traditional mobile-first portfolio.
Netmarble Chose to Delay The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin for Quality Improvement
Netmarble cited the scale and complexity of The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin as a central factor behind the delay. Unlike earlier franchise titles, the game is designed as a seamless open-world experience spanning multiple world settings, requiring further optimization across combat systems and performance mechanics.
An update notice, Developer Notes #5, followed Netmarble's Official Launch Schedule Update blog, where the studio described a number of improvements scheduled for the extended development window. Koo described that the production team has “also been closely observing Star Guardians’ gameplay firsthand at various demo events,” apart from receiving the suggestions and summarizing where testers “hesitated or repeatedly experienced discomfort.”
Combining both, the team outlined areas of improvement. These include better character control, increasing real-time movement and combat responsiveness, along with enhancing the combat system to improve skill chaining and “combat tempo.”
Additionally, Netmarble verified UI changes based on feedback comments and backend stability work. While some of the issues could be fixed in less time, some “called for a broader reexamination of the game’s overall structure and improvements at the system level,” explained Koo in the statement.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin was first announced in 2022 as a next-generation reinterpretation of The Seven Deadly Sins franchise. Set in an expansive version of Britannia, the game introduces an original multiverse storyline while featuring familiar characters such as Tristan, Clotho, and Tioreh, from the original manga.
Within the franchise’s gaming history, Origin represents a step up from earlier titles such as The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross (2019), shifting from mobile-centric RPG design to a full open-world, cross-platform format.
Netmarble's decision to delay reflects a broader industry trend in which publishers are increasingly opting to delay major releases rather than shipping unfinished products. In recent months, several high-profile franchise titles, including Rockstar’s GTA VI, have been repeatedly postponed for additional polish.
