Sonic Rumble Hits 15M Downloads but Early Revenue Stalls

Sega’s new party-royale title Sonic Rumble launched strong with major player traction, but community concerns indicate challenges ahead.

  • Sonic Rumble launches with heavy player engagement but limited revenue traction.
  • The game ranked No.1 in the iOS party-royale category.
  • Sonic Rumble gains mixed reviews with too many micro-transactions.

Sonic Rumble generated approximately $228,000 in revenue within just 10 days of its global launch. Ever since its release on Nov 5, 2025 on iOS, Android, and Steam, the game has been downloaded over 15 million times.

The game was postponed while the developers attempted to "fundamentally reshape" it, even though it was originally scheduled for early 2025. In fact, 10 million early players had signed up for Sonic Rumble through wishlists, pre-registrations, and soft launches by the time of debut.

As per community insiders, a milestone mission honoring 15 million gamers is scheduled for Nov 18, which will be today, and will include prizes such as Ring collectibles and tune-up wrenches.

Sonic Rumble: Revenue Challenges and Mixed Reviews

Despite popularity, revenue for a mobile launch has been minimal. The App Store and Google Play peaked at roughly $32,000 USD on the first day, Nov 5. The earnings then decreased for the next two days before climbing again over the first weekend. Nov 13 recorded the second-highest revenue, totaling almost $28,000 USD. As per AppMagic data, Sonic Rumble was ranked 2nd in the party-royale category and 36th overall on launch day. On the App Store, it was ranked as the top party-royale game.

Sonic Rumble is developed in Unity and can accommodate up to 32 players in cross-platform matches. Players can also explore Dr. Eggman's toy-themed arenas, acquire Rings, and engage in mini-games across several modes such as Run, Survival, Ring Battle, and more.

Following the delay, Sonic Rumble added the Quick Rumble feature, which enables players to play in a shorter session mode designed specifically for mobile devices. Not only that, but a competitive mode called Rival Rank is also added in the game.

Sonic Rumble's release comes at a time when Sega is largely pushing into free-to-play (F2P) and live-service games. The company, in its FY25 financial report, identified Sonic Rumble as a "significant" part of its F2P strategy for worldwide expansion.

Even though the release of Sonic Rumble was long awaited, the responses on various social media and gaming platforms like Reddit and Steam have been critical of the “pay-to-win” dynamics, high prices for cosmetics, and unclear progression systems, thus giving out a "Mixed" rating.

All in all, Sonic Rumble's launch displays great player engagement but uneven revenue traction. The game's massive install base and regular content updates allow Sega to grow, but early issues about pricing and progression need to be addressed if the title has to maintain revenue and competition in the cluttered F2P market.
